I’m a little late on getting this information out but after school art classes start next week!
7-9 years - Fridays 3:30-5 $30/class
10-13 years - Mondays or Thursdays 3:30-5 $30/class

There’s also a full semester fee for $325/child if you book from September to December. This includes a sketchbook that you can bring home at the end and a slight discount for approx 13 classes.

A smoky evening on the deck at Lizard Creek Lodge was actually so perfect. An amazing group of people came together to celebrate Adam and Melanie and I was asked to paint portraits for them all. So honoured to be included in such an important day. Thanks to Angela Magliocco of Angela Magliocco who helped me keep painting almost the whole night as there are always a few hiccups along the way. What a rockstar.

This past weekend was a special one. I travelled to Vancouver for a wedding where I painted over 100 people in about 6 hours,, which is about 5 minutes per portrait, with my friend Dana assisting me. It was a fabulous wedding with the best buffet, TWO cakes, and the bride and groom were new friends by the end of the night. Thank you, Clarissa and Steve, for including me in your wedding!

This wedding was full on, even though it was small, so I only got a few photos of some of the portraits. Sadly, so many good ones were missed. A beautiful day with some amazing people. Congratulations, Haley and Michael!!

Two days in a row I have been painting outdoors since the weather is perfect. Today I spent some time at the boat launch, also known as Dogwood Park, with a few of my art supplies. Fernie has so many great places to paint. As I was biking to the boat launch I passed a few spots that I could have painted at but I had a plan and I stuck to it. Tomorrow is another day!

Another painting based on a song, this time Pink Rabbits by The National. No video but a brief view of the steps. I’m not trying to make something extraordinary, just allowing the music to guide me. I also created a page of colours and tools used in my ‘colour’ sketchbook.

Summer Art Afternoons are starting in exactly one month! Throughout July and August I’ll be offering art afternoons every Tuesday and Thursday from 1-3 pm, $30/session. If you’re interested in signing up your child (about ages 9-13) for even one session, you can send me your email and I’ll add you to my registration google doc. You can also just message me which days work for you and that will reserve a spot for you. My daughter will be assisting me, as the group may be a little larger than my regular art classes, as we play creative games and work on a fun art project.

This is a great example of something I was going to throw away and, just before I tossed it in the discard pile, I decided I would try to do something with it. I love a challenge. You’ll see my art process from end to start, the last photo being the one I was unimpressed with. It happens.

“Don’t give up,” I always tell my students. There’s always potential, and with this one the colours and texture were already there. I just needed to make something of it. It’s a typical Brina painting, with flowers, a house, trees, and an admiration of the great outdoors.
