A little project that we are working on since acquiring a high-resolution scan of Vol. 1, No. 1 of Sudbury's first newspaper, The Sudbury Journal. It was an 8-page broadsheet newspaper is noted as being "Devoted to the Mining Interests and Development of Nipissing and Algoma Districts.". Even though this is simply a reproduction, a printed edition of this newspaper likely hasn't had eyes on it for over 134 years now. The only known physical edition of this newspaper resides in Ottawa in the House of Commons Reading Room, in which this edition was scanned from.

Memories of 2024

Back in October of this past year, the Garson Arena was officially renamed the George Armstrong Community Centre and Arena in tribute of the NHL Hall of Fame member who was a former resident of Skead and Falconbridge. Honoured Hockey Hall of Fame member Conn Smythe was once quoted as saying “(Armstrong is) the best captain, as a captain, the Leafs ever had.”. Armstrong went on to lead the Leafs to 3 consecutive Stanley Cup wins (1962-1964).

Journal Printing was asked to help create, print, and install a two-wall mural with photos supplied by the Hockey Hall of Fame to re-brand the arena.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place to mark the occasion and The Sudbury Star was on hand to report on the the unveiling. Ben Leeson wrote: “A star-studded group that included fellow former Toronto captains Darryl Sittler, Rick Vaive and Wendel Clark, Leafs play-by-play voice Joe Bowen, several members of the Armstrong and McCourt families and representatives of the local Indigenous community joined with city dignitaries to mark the occasion, which included the unveiling of a mural inside the main foyer of the facility.” (full article can be found online).

It’s always an honour and a pleasure to participate in a opportunity that honours the history of our amazing city and it’s people. We hope that future generations are able to draw inspiration from a legend such as George Armstrong.

Memories of 2024

It was an incredible experience to work with the NHL this past fall to prepare the Sudbury Community Arena to host the annual Kraft Hockeyville game between the Ottawa Senators and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Practically all of the printed visuals displayed both inside and outside of the arena during this amazing event were printed and installed by Journal Printing.

We take immense pride in all that we do here at Journal Printing, whether it be something as big as a nationally televised hockey event right down to helping local business, organizations, and charities to promote their endeavours in whatever printed material they may require to get their message out. We always give our customers our best, no matter how big or small.
