Pumpkin Spice Latte isn’t just a drink. It is a product of innovation.

Back in 2003, a small team led by Peter Dukes at Starbucks set out to create an autumn-inspired espresso beverage.

Working in Starbucks’ secure research space, they tested combinations, scribbled notes, and even sampled a forkful of pumpkin pie followed by a sip of espresso to discover the flavors that truly complemented coffee.

The result? The now-iconic Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL).

At first, it appeared in just 100 stores across the U.S. and Canada as a pilot project to test market reception.

But the response was overwhelming, and by 2012, it had conquered Europe, too!
