Looking for a fall day trip that’s a little different? 🍂🪓

The Nova Scotia Forest Festival is happening October 3 at Memory Lane Heritage Village, bringing a full day of old-school forestry traditions, outdoor activities and family-friendly fun.

You can watch live horse logging demonstrations, try your hand at axe throwing, taste maple syrup, go canoeing, meet live animals and explore interactive forestry exhibits. There’s even a Golden Axe-Throwing Tournament starting at 1:30 PM. 👀

Halifax’s maritime history is taking over the waterfront for an entire weekend ⚓🌊

The Maritime Heritage Festival is returning for its second year on September 12 and 13, bringing a free weekend of historic ships, live maritime music, ocean-themed activities and hands-on fun to the Halifax Waterfront.

The festival takes over the Maritime Heritage District around the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Sackville Landing and historic vessels including CSS Acadia and HMCS Sackville. 🚢

More than 25 community partners will be part of the weekend, with festival-goers able to explore ship decks, check out interactive ocean science experiences and touch tanks, catch live music and watch youth boat-building demonstrations.

Country music legend Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80. ❤️

The singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist died on today, Tuesday, August 25, her family confirmed in a statement.

Over a career spanning nearly six decades, Parton became one of the most recognizable figures in music, giving the world songs including “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You.” Her music sold more than 100 million records worldwide.

Her impact extended far beyond music. Through her Imagination Library, Parton helped provide free books to children, while her philanthropy supported education, disaster relief and medical research.

An unforgettable voice, songwriter and cultural icon whose legacy will live on for generations. ❤️

Mermaids, pirates and sea creatures are taking over Halifax Harbour 🧜‍♀️🏴‍☠️🌊

The Big Blue Boogie Cruise is setting sail aboard the Harbour Queen I on August 30 to “shell-ebrate” 10 years of Back to the Sea with a two-hour family-friendly adventure on the water. 🐚

Young mermaids, pirates, sailors and sea creatures are invited to come dressed up and spend the morning meeting mermaids, getting their faces painted, exploring marine life at touch tanks, dancing to music and more.

There will also be a Skills of a Sailor station from the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic Boat School, plus plenty of Halifax Harbour views along the way. 🚢

The limited-capacity cruise is also a fundraiser supporting the next decade of ocean education at Back to the Sea. ❤️🌊

WestJet just got a whole lot comfier 👀✈️

is updating aircraft that previously had all-economy cabins, bringing them in line with the airline’s newer cabin design and layout.

The refreshed aircraft feature a more consistent Economy cabin with 30 inches of seat pitch, while reconfigured narrow-body planes also offer a Premium cabin with more legroom, adjustable recline, device holders and power access.

WestJet says updates to its remaining all-economy aircraft are underway and expected to wrap up by early September, while work to standardize its densified Economy cabins will continue through the end of 2026.

A free multicultural marketplace is coming to the Halifax Waterfront for two days 🌊🛍️

East Coast Markets & Exchange is bringing its Summer Marketplace & Shows to Foundation Wharf on August 28 and 29, with shopping, food and live entertainment running from 10 a.m. all the way until 10 p.m.

Browse local artisans, makers, small businesses and fashion vendors, grab something to eat from vendors serving flavours from around the world, and stick around for cultural showcases, workshops and dance experiences. 🎶🍴

On Friday night, the Lisa Richard Band will also take the stage for a live performance from 7 to 10 p.m.

Halifax is bringing a taste of Oktoberfest to the waterfront this September 🍻🥨

Halifax Oktoberfest returns to The BG for a multi-day celebration packed with Bavarian-inspired food, craft beer, live oompah music and plenty of Oktoberfest traditions.

You can put your strength to the test in a stein-hoisting competition, dress up for the costume contests and even catch the fan-favourite “Big Wiener Party,” which brings dachshunds together for one very cute Oktoberfest gathering. 🌭🐶

Best of all, there’s generally no cover to join the festivities, so you can stop by and soak up the waterfront atmosphere without buying an admission ticket.

Halifax is getting a taste of Italy this September 🇮🇹🍝

Festa Italiana Halifax returns September 11 and 12, bringing two days of homemade Italian food, wine, music and culture to the Italian Canadian Cultural Association on Agricola Street.

Friday kicks things off with Gnocchi Night, where you can dig into gnocchi pomodoro or tricolori, plus Italian desserts like cannoli and tiramisu. Saturday brings a full menu featuring lasagna, cannelloni, meatballs, pizza, arancini, sausages, arrosticini and more. 🍕🍷

There’s plenty to do between bites too, including free introductory Italian lessons, bocce, kids’ activities, an espresso bar and wine-tasting sessions throughout the weekend.

Halifax is the launch city for a brand-new NHL STREET festival 👀🏒

The inaugural NHL STREET Harbour Fest is taking over the Emera Oval on September 12 and 13, bringing two days of 3-on-3 street hockey and festival fun to the Halifax Common.

Nine rinks will be set up for youth and adult tournaments, with divisions ranging from U8 to U18, plus recreational, intermediate, competitive, co-ed and women’s adult divisions. Each registered team is guaranteed at least three games. 🏒

Not playing? You can still check it out for free! The weekend will also feature live music, food trucks, a beer garden, interactive fan experiences and opportunities to try hockey.
