Police investigate gunfire

Police are investigating reports of gunfire in Halifax this afternoon.

At approximately 3:45 p.m., police responded to reports of gunfire on Duffus Street, between Lynch Street and Jarvis Lane. Upon arrival, officers located evidence of shots having been fired.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., police located a vehicle that appeared to have been shot at a residence on Barrington Street, between Richmond Street and Duffus Street. The two incidents are believed to be related.

At this time, there has been no one located with injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and in the early stages.

September 14: Domestic burning is permitted between the hours of 2:00 P.M. and 8:00 A.M. in the following counties: All counties in Nova Scotia. —————————————————————
Please note, there is no domestic burning between 8:00 A.M and 2:00 P.M daily, and restrictions are reassessed and posted everyday at 2:00 P.M; in fire risk season.

The restrictions apply to all open fires, which encompass campfires, fire pits, chimineas, fire bowls, and outdoor wood-burning stoves, along with burn barrels. Additionally, domestic brush burning and industrial burning activities, including those for agricultural purposes and clearing building lots, are subject to these rules. Fire restrictions also apply to provincial, municipal, and private campgrounds, while national parks are governed by Parks Canada. However, the daily fire restrictions do not apply to CSA-approved appliances when used according to the manufacturer's instructions. This includes devices such as barbecues, fire bowls, stoves, and patio heaters that operate on propane, natural gas, or other gases intended for these appliances, with charcoal barbecues permitted only when using briquettes.

To report a wildfire or violations of fire restrictions (including illegal burns), please call 1-800-565-2224, or 9-1-1. The Department of Natural Resources and Renewables (DNR) and/or the local fire department will be notified and dispatched to the location of the fire.

Consumer fireworks are prohibited by the Office of the Fire Marshal when the fire risk map is red. However, professional fireworks companies with permits and appropriate fire equipment and measures are allowed to use fireworks.

Additionally, you must also follow your municipal bylaws.

Police received a report of a suspicious person and learned a man was seen leaving a home with a cloth lit on fire.

A jug filled with accelerant was left nearby and the man fled the area.

Investigators believe the incident is linked to an arson and attempted arson in the same neighbourhood earlier this month. More info on our site.

All six board members from the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority have voted to rename Nashville International Airport after Dolly Parton.

The unanimous decision is the first step in the rebranding process, which will continue to unfold in the coming months, the MNAA said.

“At a place where Tennessee welcomes the world, it is fitting that Nashville International Airport would bear the name of our state’s favourite daughter and greet travellers with the enduring legacy of Dolly’s music, generosity, faith, and kindness.”

UPDATE ON SHOOTING: Cape Breton Regional Police are looking for three suspects after the victim of a shooting arrived at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital at approximately 7:30 AM with non-life-threatening injuries.


Police responded and spoke with the 30-year-old male, and were able to confirm that the incident occurred within the 100-200 block of Alexandra Streey in Sydney early this morning. Information was received that three males wearing masks forced their way into a residence, shot the victim, and then left the area in a vehicle, described as a Toyota Camry.


Police have since located the suspect vehicle in the Woodbine Road area of Marion Bridge, where they continue to search for the suspects who are believed to have fled the vehicle on foot. Police are asking the public to avoid the area of Woodbine Road


The Major Crime and Forensic Identification Units are investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cape Breton Regional Police Service 902-563-5151 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1800-222-8477

Just last year, Alison Krauss released her latest album with Arcadia. Joining forces with Union Station, the album peaked at No. 1 on the US Top Bluegrass Albums chart. It also went No. 1 on the UK Country Albums chart. Thrilled over the success of the album, Krauss planned to hit the road with a tour. And in April, that tour kicked off. Having already traveled the country, sadly, the famed fiddler was forced to cancel the rest of her shows.

The news was somewhat of a shock to fans as Krauss was expected to take the stage tonight. But in late August, she needed a break from the concerts in California. Hoping to return to the tour, Krauss shared on Instagram that doctors advised her to go on vocal rest. “It is with great regret that Alison Krauss & Union Station have announced the cancellation of our upcoming tour dates. After consulting with medical professionals, Alison has been advised to take a period of vocal rest to ensure a full and healthy recovery.”

Not the news fans wanted to hear, Krauss was taking no chances when it came to her health. And according to her team, “This decision was not made lightly as we are deeply committed to our fans. However, prioritizing health and vocal integrity is imperative at this time.”

Offering full refunds for the canceled shows, the team urged fans to reach out to their point of purchase with any questions they had. As for Krauss, the statement concluded with, “We hope to make it back to these cities in the near future.”
