This month marks 12 years since I started KA Social Media, and I keep thinking about the person who launched this business back in 2014.

Compared to these days, 2014 Kerra had no idea what was coming honestly. Social media looked SO different back then, and so did my life.

So if I could sit down with Kerra from 2014, I think she’d have a pretty long list of questions. I’d order her a refresher, settle in and tell her these 12 things that I know now, that I wish I had known back then.

I cannot BELIEVE I’m waking up to my 12th year in business!

On September 8th, 2014, I started KA Social Media out of the spare room in our house after a pretty scary health situation that made a traditional job basically impossible for me.

Social media looked SO different back then, and I definitely couldn’t have predicted where this would take me.

There have been incredible years, hard years, ridiculously busy years, and quieter ones. There have been clients who have been with me for a huge part of the journey, opportunities I never could have imagined as a full-time employee, mistakes, pivots, networking events, speaking engagements, and a whole lot of learning along the way.

I've worked through different stages of motherhood and different stages of business side by side, both growing together as a part of who I am. In both cases, I’ve tried my best, and sometimes it was awesome, and sometimes it wasn’t. Somehow, 12 years later, here we are.

After taking time to think about things over the past few weeks, I wanted to share 12 lessons I’ve learned along the way.

It’s the beginning of September, which means the kiddos are heading back to school and you and I are heading back to business!

Your email list is one of the easiest ways to stay in touch with people who already know you. If it's been a while since you've sent anything, a quick update keeps you on their radar before the busy season hits.

- Send an update to your list, even a short one just checking in.
- Confirm your sign-up link or form still works.
- Set a rough plan for how often you'll send through fall.
