We have some incredible events lined up for this season. We are kicking it off with the President Cocktail Reception that Volunteers Marianne Ford and Leslie Comfort have coined "Summer Lovers Welcome Cocktail Party"

SUMMER APPLICATIONS FOR 2024 ARE NOW OPEN!!

We are looking for applicants for Summer 2024!
It's going to be a great summer at the lake and we want you to join our summer staff!
If you want to be part of the Lake Louisa Social Club staff this summer, please send your cover letter and CV to [email protected] before Saturday, February 24th.
*Late submissions will not be accepted.
Make sure to include:
*your qualifications
*your areas of interest/skills
*your availability for the summer
*what YOU bring to the program (qualifications, areas of interests: PAO, Canteen, lawn maintenance, pickleball, art, etc.)
We are looking for applications of varying ages and skill levels. This includes:
Junior Staff
Senior Staff
Since the club is located on a lake and has a large focus on swimming activities, we will give preference to those applying with:
Bronze Medallion and/or Cross,
*Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Course (no longer WSI),
*National Lifeguard Certification, and
*Life-Saving Instructor - LSI.
[Note: Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Course (no longer WSI) & National Lifeguard Certification required for Senior Staff]
If you do not yet have the required levels, please ensure your courses are complete before the club opening.

⭐️4 Common Signs that your Gut needs some TLC⭐️

1. Bloating - if you experience bloating soon after you eat OR bloating that gradually gets worse over the course of the day - those can both be indications that your gut may be imbalanced or that you could have some pathogens that need to be addressed

2. Skin Issues
This can be acne, rosacea, eczema, dry skin or psoriasis.
Much like we have the gut - brain axis, we also have a gut - skin axis!
The health of our gut affects or skin because it affects nutrient absorption of vitamins, minerals and healthy fats. It also plays a large role in our immune system and many of the skin conditions listed above are inflammatory responses.

3. Irregularities in your bathroom habits
If you’re experiencing constipation, diarrhea, or a mix of both, there could be some imbalances in your gut flora or an overgrowth of bacteria, fungi or parasites that are affecting your gut and bowel health.

4. Fatigue
Inflammation in the body causes fatigue. If you are consuming foods that cause inflammation or eating a diet that lacks diversity, you may be missing the opportunity to feed the good guys in your gut like the species Faecalibacterium prausnitzii (F. Prausnitzii). A bacteria found in the colon that is often reduced in people experience intestinal disorders. Eating foods high in Inulin (asparagus, sugar beets, garlic, artichoke, and banana) can help to feed these good guys and control inflammation in the body!

Prebiotics, Probiotics, and Postbiotics. We often hear these terms, but do you know what they each do?

Let's start with Prebiotics.

Prebiotics are fiber. We cannot digest them. Our bodies do not have the enzymes.

Prebiotics make their way further into the digestive tract, where they act as food for the "good guys" in our gut.

The good news is, you are most likely already eating a lot of them.

Prebiotics can be resistant starches like oats, beans, or legumes.

They can also contain Inulin in foods like garlic or onions.

Foods like apples, carrots, or raspberries can also contain pectins, another form of prebiotics.

One of the easiest ways to keep our gut healthy is to feed it a diet with lots of variety, high in fruit and vegetables.

Let’s talk about FATS baby 🎵
Fats are SO important for our overall health.
Let’s talk about what they do for our bodies:
-proper absorption of your fat soluble vitamins (A,D,E, and K)
-help to support our immune system
-regulate body temperature
-create feeling of satiety/fullness
-help with energy production
-hormone production (especially our s*x and stress hormones)
-help with cell growth
-help to protect our organs

What fats should you eat!?
-Poly-Unsaturated Fats (PUFAs)
These can be found in fatty fish, flax seed, olive oils
-Moon-unsaturated Fats (MUFAs)
These are found in foods like nuts, seeds, and avocados
Even saturated fats like full fat butters, creams and cheese are good too eat.

What should be avoid??
We want to avoid artificial trans fats - these will have ingredients listed with words like: hydrogenated, partially hydrogenated. They can be found in most processed foods, seed oils, and packaged foods

In Part 1, we talked about Acute Stress. Today, let’s delve into Chronic Stress. This is when our body identifies something as a stress for a prolonged period of time.

This can be anything from a taxing relationship, to a really demanding schedule or job. Chronic stress starts to take a toll on our bodies. It can start to present with both physical and mental symptoms. You might notice trouble concentrating, difficulty sleeping, decreased energy, aches and pains, changes in your skin and appetite, or weight gain (particularly in the abdomen).

This can present in a number of different ways: you might experience low blood pressure (getting dizzy when you stand up), sensitivity to light or sound, development of a chronic illness, short patience, decreased immune systems and sugar/salt cravings.
