This has been on my mind this morning, so I wanted to share it with you so it’s on your mind too.

Our emotions give us clues that something needs our attention

You’re in a high-stakes meeting.
Someone says something that hits a nerve. And just like that… the internal shift happens.

For most leaders, the reaction is immediate:
Push back. Shut it down.
Or pull back and disengage.
Different behaviours. Same pattern.

What’s often driving it isn’t the moment itself, but what the moment means:
• A perceived loss of control
• Feeling challenged or exposed
• Fear of being undermined

And in that moment, your response becomes the emotional climate of the room.

This is where emotional intelligence becomes practical.
Not as a concept, but as something you can apply in real time:
• Pause briefly
• Notice what’s happening internally
• Get curious about what’s triggering you
• Reframe
• Choose a response aligned with the outcome you actually want

You don’t need to suppress what you feel.
But you do need to lead through it.
Because the moments that trigger you
are often the moments where your leadership is most visible.

Let me know what’s your default in those moments? Do you go into ‘fight’ and aggressively push back, or do you react in ‘flight’ and pull back, disengage? Or do you lead with emotional intelligence?

That’s a wrap! I have completed my dissertation for my master’s degree, my research project on ‘The Impact of Reframing Negative Core Beliefs Through Experiential Learning on Improving Emotional Self-Management in Adults with Anxiety’. I am feeling proud and on purpose as I sit between celebrating ‘I did it!’ and reflecting on ‘what’s next?’

My master’s journey for my MSc in Communication, Behaviour and Credibility Analysis with and Manchester Metropolitan University has been an incredible experience. A cohort of exceptional people, and learning from Aaron Garner and Cliff Lansley has been a privilege… sometimes learning felt a bit like drinking from a firehose and I have read more research papers than I had ever bargained for; I learned a lot! What I didn’t expect was how much I learned about myself. There were more aha-moments than I can count... connecting the science of emotional intelligence with personal experience turned into a journey of connecting the dots in my own personal development like never before. As I sit on the edge of ‘what’s next’ I feel a sense of urgency to turn the science of emotional intelligence and anxiety into accessible learning for leaders. Leaders in organizations are quietly carrying the pressure and responsibility of leading themselves and their teams in uncertain times.

Connecting head and heart, creating a space to have the hard conversations. Because they matter.

As we we stand at the edge of this new year, this is my wish for you…
May joyful moments feed your soul,
May you experience love that is unconditional,
May laughter gift you with carefree moments,
May adventure lift your spirits and empathy remind you to breathe,
May you have good people in your life who show up in both the happy and challenging days,
May you be that special person to someone who is struggling,
May you remember you are braver than you can imagine, and that 2026 is yours to create.

17 years ago I took a workshop someone I trusted had recommended to me, an experiential learning personal development workshop. An uncomfortable experience outside of my comfort zone turned into the most valuable experience of my life. It’s changed my life. A 2.5 day workshop turned into a 17 year journey into learning about emotions, behaviour, beliefs, emotional intelligence, and I’m in the midst of my Masters in this subject.

The name of the workshop that started it all? Connections.
Over the past 17 years I had the privilege to come back many times on the team of this program, facilitated by , who has become a friend and mentor, and whom I have, and continue to learn so much from.

And Terry recently put a date for Connections on the calendar - November 28-30. It’s coming up quick and it’s the only one this year, and I’m looking forward to being there. It’s a breakthrough weekend like no other for helping people shift from being a passive bystander in the life, living life by default to becoming an active participant, creating their life by design.

It’s just been a month since my own Momentum from Within workshop that I ran as part of my Master’s Research project on ‘the impact of reframing of negative core beliefs through experiential learning on emotional self-management’. Much of Terry’s work has flowed into my program, and I am grateful for that.

Workshops like Connections and Momentum From Within require vulnerability and that’s uncomfortable, so many people will never step into a workshop like this. But is it ever worth it! I have seen the life-changing impact for 17 years, and now I see the impact not only through observation, but also through my research data.

No matter how much research and reading I do (and I do a lot!), theory has to turn into practice to have an impact.

If you find yourself in a place in your life where you want to create some ‘momentum from within’, Connections is a place to connect with yourself and find the brilliance within you to create the future you want. I’ll be there, I hope you’ll be there too. I’m happy to connect you with Terry to start a conversation if you want, or reach out to me. ❤️

Beautiful rainbow this morning on our drive home from dropping Katherine off at school… some days we just need a reminder that even on the stormiest days ‘there’s always been a rainbow hangin’ over your head’ 🌈

I sent off my submission for my Master’s dissertation research proposal. It’s this weird moment going from ‘sprint to the finish line’ to ‘now what?’

Now it’s appreciating a moment of calm. My brain feels quiet for a moment, but I can already feel the wheels starting to turn… I am so excited for what’s to come.

Now it’s digging into more reading and research… my big takeaway from the proposal writing process, and getting (oh so patient!!) feedback from EIA’s team between draft and final version is ‘I don’t know what I don’t know’.

Now it’s taking a moment to be proud of choosing my topic in the field of anxiety, emotional intelligence and core beliefs. It feels deeply personal, and that it matters. This research can make a difference.

Now it’s waiting for my research proposal and ethics application to be approved before I can start into my research project. I can’t wait to share the details of it with all of you soon (little spoiler… part of the study will be a live workshop in Kelowna, and I will be looking for participants).

It feels big and overwhelming. I got this. ❤️
