A six-figure AI project seemed perfect, but I spotted one tiny detail that told me it was destined for disaster. Most people miss this crucial insight.

The real reason I said no.

A large enterprise came to me with budget, urgency, and executive sponsorship. On paper, it looked like a dream engagement for any consulting firm. We were about 20 minutes into the discovery call when their VP casually mentioned they just needed the AI to handle things so they would no longer have to train their sales team.

That one sentence revealed a massive people problem they were desperately trying to bury under new technology.
