And yes… I may be a little too excited about business cards.
But here’s the thing — I don’t really see them as just business cards.
They’re another tiny piece of perception design.
Before someone visits my website.
Before they see my portfolio.
Before we have a proper conversation.
They’ve already seen me, my name, my brand and one message:

YOUR IMAGE SPEAKS BEFORE YOU DO.
Make sure it’s telling the right story.

Your image speaks before you do.

But what is it actually saying?

We often think a professional photo is simply about looking good.

It isn’t.

Before someone reads your bio, checks your experience, or speaks to you, they have already started forming an impression.

In Episode 1 of The Visual Authority Show, I talk about why first impressions matter, how quickly we begin forming opinions about other people, and why today that first impression often happens online — before we ever meet face to face.

After recording Episode 0, the pilot episode, I made a few changes to the format. I'm learning, improving, and finding the rhythm of this show as I go.

FROM ZERO.

For more than 17 years, photography has been a huge part of my life and my work.

But somewhere along the way, I realized that the most interesting part was never really the camera.

It was perception.

How do people see us?

What makes someone appear confident, credible or trustworthy?

Why can one image communicate authority while another image of exactly the same person tells a completely different story?

And how much influence do we actually have over that?

I’ve been thinking about these questions for years.

Today, I’m finally giving them a place.

I’m introducing a new way to describe what I do: Perception Designer.

For years, I’ve struggled to find one title that truly describes my work.

I’m a photographer — but I haven’t been just a photographer for a long time.

Branding came closer, but it still wasn’t quite it.

Because my work often begins long before we create a single image.

It begins with questions:

How do you see yourself?
How do others see you?
How do you want to be seen?
And who are you becoming?

There can be a gap between who we are, how we see ourselves, how we present ourselves, and how other people perceive us.

That gap is where I work.

Sometimes it means challenging assumptions or breaking through internal barriers. Sometimes it means helping someone recognize that the way they present themselves today no longer reflects where they’re going.

Photography is one of my tools.

But so are psychology, visual communication, body language, branding and storytelling.

And I finally have a name that brings it all together:

Perception Designer.

I work at the intersection of identity, image and perception.

It’s not simply:

“How can we make you look good?”

It’s:

“What should people understand, feel and remember when they see you?”

I’ve been doing this work for years.

Now, it finally has a name.

Perception Design.

I think we have a new pandemic... 😷

AI can generate a polished image in seconds. But looking professional and communicating who you actually are are two very different things.

Your headshot creates a first impression before you ever say a word.

So before generating another “perfect” version of yourself, ask one question:

Is this really how I want people to see me?

“Not everything is complicated. It’s not an Avril Lavigne song.” 😁

Good food. Natural light. A quiet moment.
I love cooking, and apparently even my kitchen has to be creative. I rarely use recipes. I just open the fridge, see what I have, and start creating. 😉

A little bit of this, a little bit of that… and somehow it works.
Fun fact: Before moving to Canada, I almost changed careers. I was already working as a photographer, but I was accepted to study nutrition at university and was about to start a personal trainer course.
In the end, life had a different plan for me, and photography stayed. But my interest in nutrition — and all the knowledge I gained along the way — stayed with me too.

So maybe it makes sense that even dinner becomes a little creative project.
Sometimes the simplest things make the best photographs.
