Did you know that in 2024, tourism contributed $8.0 billion in value added to British Columbia’s economy, representing 3% of provincial GDP. This figure exceeded the contribution of every other primary resource industry in the province.

As an export industry, tourism draws new external dollars into communities. It is a social, cultural, and economic phenomenon in which people travel to destinations outside their usual environment for personal, business, or professional purposes.

As e-bikes continue to transform the way people explore the outdoors, the City of Kimberley is embracing the opportunity to lead the way with sustainable, world-class trail infrastructure designed for e-bike users, adaptive riders, and traditional mountain bikers alike.

Through the 'Electrify the Mountains' project, Kimberley has expanded and enhanced its trail network to welcome Class 1 pedal-assist e-bikes, adaptive trikes, and traditional mountain bikes. The result? 36 km of new and improved trails in the Kimberley Nordic Centre area (photo), creating more opportunities for riders of all abilities to experience the region’s spectacular natural landscapes.

By investing in inclusive, low-impact recreation, Kimberley is building a more accessible outdoor experience while supporting sustainable tourism in the Kootenays.
