In today’s candidate-driven market, it’s not only crucial for an organization’s employer brand to stand out, but also your personal brand as a recruiter. Not only does your personal brand lend to your credibility as a recruiter, but it can also help build better relationships with candidates.

To dive deeper on this topic, we spoke with Chanèle McFarlane, Talent Engagement Researcher at Coursera on this week’s episode of The Employer Brand Shop Talk Podcast!

Listen now to hear her tips for getting started with your personal brand, how to make it authentic (and not come off as cheesy!), and channels that recruiters should consider building a platform on.

— 76% of tech employees are willing to accept a lower base salary in exchange for other forms of compensation, according to a report by Hired on hiring tech talent during the “Great Resignation.”

What does this mean for you as an employer hiring for tech talent? Here’s a few takeaways from the report:

✅ Re-evaluate the benefits you offer. Flexible work options and paid time off (PTO) were top of the list. Start by asking your own employees what perks and benefits they value most.

✅ Be transparent about salary. As many employees can now work from anywhere, be open about your compensation structure across locations and if/how you’re determining changes based on cost of living for remote positions.

✅ Offer stock options to employees if you’re a publicly traded company. 27% of tech employees would accept a lower base salary in exchange for stock in their company.

“Employees and their voices are incredibly powerful. What they say to their friends and family, and post on social media holds more weight than anything I could post on behalf of an organization.”

That’s just a snippet from the latest episode of The Employer Brand Shop Talk Podcast with Jordan Beresford, Manager of Employer Brand at Sephora Canada.

In episode 3 of The Employer Brand Shop Talk Podcast, Natasha chats with Jordan about Sephora Canada’s journey building their SPARK Ambassador program including, how to get started, overcoming obstacles, and the impact that employee engagement and advocacy has on your employer brand as a whole.

Have you been struggling with candidates ghosting you? 👻 In today’s candidate-driven market you’re not alone. In the spirit of Halloween, here’s three tips for how to avoid getting ghosted by candidates:

🎃 Be transparent about the process. Communicate expectations and timelines at each point in the candidate journey — from your job ads, to your career site, to your first call with the candidate, and beyond. Send updates if anything changes to avoid spooking them with sudden changes.

🎃 Provide valuable content and information. Once a candidate is in your pipeline, it’s important that you nurture them. While high contact is key, you don’t want to bombard them with irrelevant information. Instead, share content that adds value to your candidate’s journey. This can look like an employee blog post, feedback on their phone screen, or a tip video on how to prepare for their next interview.

🎃 Remove unnecessary steps and barriers. In today’s market, candidates are often faced with multiple job offers so ensuring your application process is short and frictionless is important.

We hope the only ghosts you experience in the next week are in your Halloween costume parties, not with your candidates!
