Sometimes the things that make us different can also become our greatest strengths.

My conversation on I Am Not Calm gave me a chance to look back at my writing journey, my autism diagnosis, and how discovering my neurodiversity changed the way I saw myself.

Rather than viewing my autism and ADHD as barriers, I've learned to recognize the ways they have shaped my creativity.

Creativity is wonderfully unpredictable.

It is always interesting reflecting on how stories come together—where ideas start, how they evolve, and the strange ways inspiration shows up when you are not expecting it.

Last summer, I had the opportunity to do just that with Red O’Laughlin on The Corner Book Store show with USA Global TV, where we discussed my writing process and what inspires me.

We also talked about some of my favourite authors and books that shaped my journey… and I may have realized I have a bit of a problem. I have been recommended so many great books over time that I bought three bookcases just to keep up.

Still, no regrets.

If anything, it just means my to-be-read pile has officially become a permanent fixture.

Last fall, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Randy Weir on The Jarvis Mann Private Detective Podcast, and I'm still incredibly grateful for the opportunity.

Writing is a strange profession. We spend countless hours talking to imaginary people, arguing with fictional villains, and occasionally questioning our own sanity when our characters refuse to cooperate. 😂 So opportunities to step out from behind the keyboard and share the passion behind the stories are always special.

Randy was a wonderful host, and I truly appreciated the chance to discuss my journey as an author, creativity, and the stories that mean so much to me.

I had the privilege of appearing on the Project Seed Money podcast, where I was given the opportunity to share a very personal part of my journey.

We talked about my autism and ADHD diagnosis, the struggles that came with growing up without understanding why I experienced the world differently, and how writing eventually became both my refuge and my voice.

Looking back, I'm grateful that I finally stopped asking, "What if I fail?" and started asking, "What if I don't try?"

A heartfelt thank-you to Project Seed Money for creating such a welcoming space and for allowing me to speak openly about my journey. Sharing our stories can be frightening, but sometimes the things that make us feel different become the very things that connect us to others.

And yes, after spending decades talking to imaginary people, discussing them publicly still feels slightly strange. 😂

Last fall, I had the pleasure of appearing on Mitzi, Let's Think About It, where we discussed something very close to my heart: why I write.

Writing began as much more than a hobby for me. Long before I ever imagined becoming a published author, storytelling became my sanctuary. It gave me a safe place to process emotions, make sense of the world around me, and express thoughts I often struggled to put into words.

During our conversation, I shared how my autism and ADHD diagnosis in 2019 helped me better understand myself and how those experiences ultimately shaped both my life and my writing journey.

Looking back, it's amazing to think that the thing I once turned to as self-therapy eventually led me to become an author and connect with so many wonderful readers and fellow creatives.

A heartfelt thank you to Mitzi for providing such a welcoming space to share my story and my passion for writing.

I learned how to cope long before I understood why I needed to.

Growing up autistic and ADHD without support meant quietly figuring things out on my own—masking, building systems, and leaning into creativity just to get through the day. Writing became my coping strategy long before it became my passion.

In this conversation with Randi-lee Bowslaugh - Author on Our Neurodiverse World, I talk openly about late diagnosis, raising neurodivergent children, and how finally understanding my brain replaced years of self-blame with clarity and self-compassion.

Sharing this part of my story still feels vulnerable—but I do it because I know how isolating it can feel to grow up without answers.
