What a full circle moment. I worked with Adam & Lindsey for their website when they were selling BBQs out of their living room in Naicam. Amazing to see where their business is today. Well deserved. Congratulations!!

We are incredibly honoured to share that we won New Business of the Year at the Melbex Awards last night!

To say we are speechless is an understatement. With such amazing businesses in the running, and being open for less than a year, this recognition means more to us than we can put into words. We are truly grateful for the support from our customers, community, and fellow businesses who have helped us grow so quickly.

A huge thank you to the Melfort Trade Alliance for organizing such a fantastic event. It was a wonderful evening celebrating so many great local businesses and the strength of our community.

We couldn’t do this without all of you — thank you for supporting us in our first year. We’re excited for what’s ahead!

Looking forward to the gala this weekend!

One of the biggest mistakes I see on websites has nothing to do with design…

It’s all about the copy.

I’m not a professional copywriter, but hear me out:

❗️Your website isn’t about you. Even your about page isn’t about you!❗️

When a user visits your website, they’re not asking, “Who are you?”

They’re asking, “How can you help me?”

Your copy (the written content) should focus on your ideal client’s problem and goals.

❌ Instead of:
“We provide crop consulting services.”

✅ Say: “You’ll receive comprehensive advice and recommendations that will help you make confident decisions.”

❌ Instead of:
“We offer tailored marketing and consulting packages.”

✅ Say: “You’ll have a focused plan tailored to your business goals, so your strategy will be clear, efficient, and profitable.”

❌ Instead of:
“We design custom homes.”

✅ Say:
“You’ll have a space that reflects your lifestyle, designed intentionally to balance beauty and overall function.”

Instead of selling what the business does, sell what the client experiences.

Confidence.
Profitability.
Efficiency.
Clarity.
Results.

Write your copy for your client, not for you.

I design websites for small, rural businesses. Rural business is different, and so serving rural clients and website users must be done differently. Here are 3 assumptions I make about rural clients and resulting considerations for the websites I design:

❗️Assumption: Rural connectivity is poor.
✅ Consideration: No auto-play videos. Reduce image sizes to 1MB. No fancy animations. Keep loading speed fast so the experience isn’t compromised for users with poor connectivity.

❗️Assumption: Rural customers aren’t tech-savvy.
✅ Consideration: Keep the navigation simple - traditional menu designs and clear site map. No fancy animations or trendy designs. Users shouldn’t be confused on where to find the content they are looking for. Keep the design practical.

❗️Assumption: Rural customers want to work with people they know and trust.
✅ Consideration: Reinforce credibility right away. Use real, professional photos of owners and staff - avoid stock when possible. Provide testimonials with names of local customers or businesses to create social validation via others the user may know. Add a business location, preferably with a map. Display clear contact information. We want the user to know exactly who they could be working with.

Good design starts with understanding the user you’re designing for!

Rural businesses are different. They’re built from relationships, trust, community, and a lot of grit.

Your story deserves to be seen online with the same warmth and sincerity it holds in real life. My mission is simply to take what you’ve already built and help you create a digital home that honours your roots, your values, and your community ✨

I teased an announcement and then peaced out for like a month 🙈

As my 3 year old would say, "That's so typical..."

But here it is: my new website. It's more than just another website to me - it's designed for my ideal client in mind. The copy is strategic. The photos are professional. The call-to-actions are clear. Everything is on brand.

AND - this was the first website I've built on Showit, instead of Wix. I'm so happy with my transition to this new platform as it has SO much more design flexibility. I will still be supporting my Wix clients on that platform of course but looking forward to designing all my new websites on Showit.
