Over the last little while, I’ve been paying closer attention to the restaurant experience around Mission. Not just the food or the social media. I am observing "the feeling" people leave with after they walk out the door.

In my opinion, a lot of restaurants don’t actually have a marketing problem. They have little 'disconnects' happening throughout the customer experience that slowly chip away at how people feel about the place over time.
>> The atmosphere feels sligthly tired. The energy of the entire environment may drop after the food arrives.
>> Customers stop feeling looked after in small ways that are hard to explain, but easy to feel.

The hard part is that marketing can’t really cover that up anymore. You can bring people in once with good photos, ads, or social media. But if the experience underneath isn’t strong, people stop coming back.

That’s a big part of what I’ve been researching while building this restaurant report for Mission. I am not focusing on “how to get more likes.” It is not a standard marketing approach.

More to come!

Most people don’t realize where they’re losing customers. It’s not one big thing. It’s everything they stopped noticing.

That’s exactly what I pay attention to at Inside The Cart.

Ask me about the restaurant report for local restaurants in Mission!

I got this message after we completed a project. The part that stuck with me wasn’t even about marketing. It was this feeling of being overwhelmed… like you have so many things you could do, but no clear sense of what actually matters.

People aren’t stuck because they’re lazy or inconsistent. They’re just… carrying too much at once.

Trying to figure it out alone.

Someday, things start making sense again.

Got my business cards today! They’re nice, but not quite the paper quality I want, so round two is already in the works. Learning as I go. 😀

New cards just landed.
(It took a while till I was happy with my design)

I have been working behind the scenes on something bigger — studying local businesses, patterns, what’s working, and what’s being missed.

If you run a business in Mission, BC, and feel like there’s more potential sitting on the table… I see it, and I’m starting conversations.

I’ve noticed something lately.

Marketing isn’t rare anymore, as many tools are accessible, and templates are everywhere. But here’s the difference. Most marketing focuses on output, while I focus on identity.

When I say I’m soul-led, I don’t mean emotional or mystical. When we meet, I ask:
-Why did you build your business?
-What does it actually stand for?
-Where did it drift?

Because if that part isn’t clear, no strategy will fix it. The fact is, anyone can produce content, but not everyone can establish a business identity. That’s the lane I’m in 😉

I don’t post just to stay active. If I’m quiet on my social media, it usually means I’m deep in client work and building things that take time and patience. In my opinion, visibility can be easy. Ex*****on takes focus, and I have been choosing to stay as close to my projects as possible.

But things are about to change as I implemented additional structures in my business. 😉

When I first started working with this project in 2025, I read both books cover to cover and felt every page. I could feel how much thought went into them — the care in choosing the stories, the words, and the archived photos.
It all began in the 1990s. Ann, the publisher of both books, held these stories in her heart for over 30 years. When she approached me to help get the books seen, I felt a deep sense of care and responsibility, and I was truly honoured to help move this project forward..
But... at one point, I hesitated. I thought, “This isn’t my specific trauma. This isn’t my heritage. What if they say, ‘Don’t touch it?’” That voice isn’t wrong. I didn’t live this history, but I still feel it deeply. And I had to ask myself — does that disqualify me from helping make space for these stories to be heard?.
I’m not here to speak for anyone. I want to help protect the space where these stories can speak for themselves...
St. Mary’s: The Legacy of an Indian Residential School
This book documents the history of Mission and the residential school through 64 survivor testimonials from 46 former students who attended St. Mary’s from the 1940s through the 1980s. It’s raw, historic, and necessary — supported by photographs, context, and truth-telling that deserves care.
.
Mina: Memoirs of Her Granddaughter, Letheyxelwet
Written by Coast Salish Elder Philomena Douglas Fraser, this memoir is vibrant and full of life. It shares her journey through childhood, residential school, travel, teachings, and joy — a reminder that these stories hold strength as much as pain..
Why we created the group
“St. Mary’s Residential School: A Space to Remember” is a community Facebook group hosted by Longhouse Publishing and my studio, Inside The Cart. It’s open to anyone who wants to learn more about Mission’s history, the legacy of residential schools, and the role storytelling plays in remembrance and healing..
Inside the group, we’ll be sharing:
-Reflections from the publishing team
-Story excerpts and photographs rarely seen elsewhere
-Invitations to events, readings, and community conversations
-Thoughtful posts that honour the people and place behind these stories.
Thank you for walking this road with us.
