A Magical Visit to Santa’s Hidden Log House in Moonstone
Part 1 of A Chat With Santa
This writer recently received a very special invitation from Santa and Mrs. Claus to visit them at one of their best-kept secrets their Canadian Log House in Moonstone, Ontario.
As I drove slowly up the winding driveway of tall whispering pine trees, I couldn't help but wonder what it must be like to live where Christmas never seems to end.
I was nervous. I have met politicians, business leaders and celebrities, throughout my career, but somehow this interview felt different. After all, how many people get invited into Santa's home?
As someone who absolutely loves everything about Christmas, I found myself asking, "What should I ask Santa?"
As I pulled in front of the log cabin there, he was Santa himself on the front porch...I felt like a kid again He waved as if we had known each other forever, and I guess in a way we did.
The butterflies quickly disappeared as he called “Welcome”. We walked toward the front door, it slowly opened, standing there with the warmest smile was Mrs. Claus, welcoming me inside, while their friendly dog, Jaxson, happily greeted me. At that moment I paused, I wasn't Sylvia the writer anymore. The child in me returned experiencing the Magic of Christmas all over again.
And perhaps that's exactly what Christmas is meant to do.
Have you ever found yourself looking up into the night sky on Christmas Eve? Listening for sleigh bells or the shine of Rudolph’s nose, we're never too old to believe in the Magic of Christmas.
One of my favourite childhood memories was Christmas Eve with my family. Just when my siblings and I were trying our hardest to stay awake, my dad would suddenly whisper, “Shhh... did you hear that?" Then he'd look toward the roof and say, “I think Santa's up there! I can hear the reindeer and his sleigh bells... but if he knows you're still awake, he'll leave. Well... that was all we needed to hear. We raced upstairs, jumped into bed, pulled the blankets over our heads, squeezed our eyes shut, and pretended we had been asleep the whole time.
Looking back now, I realize my dad wasn't just telling us a story. He was giving us a gift of imagination and wonder.
And standing in Santa's Log House, all these years later......those childhood memories came rushing back. The magic had returned.
Ok so back to the interview with Santa.
My First Question to Santa.
Sylvia: "Santa, I have to ask... what are you doing here in Moonstone? Aren't you supposed to be at the North Pole?"
Santa: "That's the question every child asks! The North Pole will always be my home, but did you know I travel all over the world throughout the year? Christmas magic doesn't just happen in December—it takes all year to prepare!"
The legend is that Santa has several hidden log homes around the world where he prepares for Christmas, and one of those homes has quietly existed for generations here in the forests of Moonstone. People do not know its here and some have stumbled across it when believing in the Magic of Christmas. The Spirit of Christmas is strong in Moonstone.
Sylvia: Santa, can children visit you here at Santa's Log House?
Santa: "Absolutely! I'd love to welcome children and their families to my Log House here in Moonstone. Every family that comes for a visit has a private visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, a unique opportunity away from all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Because it's such a busy time of year, I can only welcome a limited number of families, so it's important to reserve your visit early."
