Create content that emotionally connects with a targeted audience.

is a design style that is deeply important to a segment of the population.

Anne Côté of introduces this evolving theme.

“Some people need maximalism in their life. They need and appreciate a lot of things. It's a style that originated in the Victorian era and is reflected today in people collecting items of interest, traveling a lot, and populating their homes with meaningful art and accessories. The idea is to exhibit a cultural explosion of their experiences and tastes around them.” Anne Côté

Trends 2022:
Biophilia reduces stress and improves creativity. ANNECOTEDESIGN identifies BIOPHILIC design as a trend that is increasingly relevant to our society.

"Biophilic design emphasizes the creation of environments whose shapes, down to the choice of materials and finishes, are inspired by nature. It is even more about incorporating plants into living environments in a meaningful way which makes it possible to establish a visual link with nature. According to studies, Biophilia reduces stress, improves creativity and our well-being. At home and in public spaces, people enjoy experiencing the natural component in their lives." Trends 2022 - Recharge with Biophilic Design
Amazon’s sphere project is an example of a company taking Biophilia to the max and building an entire 4000 sq ft eco-system in the middle of an urban setting so that its employees have a refuge from their office confinements and can be amongst living organisms to relax and recharge.

As humans, there is a reason we head to the beach or travel to the mountains when we go on vacation. It's because we have an innate desire to be in and around nature.
Many studies have shown the calming effect of having plants in your living space and the healing powers of hospital patients who are given access to sunlight and greenery.

Biophilic design in simple terms means Building according to the “love of life”. To use natural materials and outdoor spaces to better connect with nature to improve one’s quality of life.

2022 Sustainable Design Trend - Cork
Cork might be a sustainability darling but its most redeeming quality for designers is the sensory experience it adds to a room. No other building material can provide the textural intrigue combined with the warmth of cork which is why our Design Trends Analyst, Cheryl Grant selected it as her top building material for 2022.

Cheryl says ‘It’s everything a building material should be – renewable, biodegradable, impermeable to liquid and gas, natural insulator, fire retardant, wear resistant, hypoallergenic and available in contemporary colours.’

Sustainable Artistry -
Besides copper's high conductivity, the ability to recycle endlessly is the most important property of copper. It is estimated that 80% of all copper ever produced in the last 10,000 years is still in use today.

Copper’s warm metallic glow has attracted artists and designers around the world for centuries. The combination of copper’s contribution to the future of our planet plus the beauty and charm it adds to interior design makes it a number one metal choice for 2022.

2022 Sustainable Design Trend - Cork

has been re-imagined for 2022. And what is driving its popularity as a decor material is . Steeped in a tradition that goes back to the middle ages, the cork harvest is one of the most eco-friendly extraction processes known to man. Because only the bark is needed to produce the finished product, the same tree can be harvested every decade. Not only is this good for the tree, but in order to regenerate its bark, the tree goes into a carbon sequestering frenzy, for every ton of cork harvested, the tree must absorb 70 tons of carbon to regrow the bark (5x the amount of carbon absorbed by a maple tree). With an average lifespan of 250 years, cork products are not only renewable but carbon negative for the environment, thus making it one of the most eco-friendly choices one can make for their home.
