Sometimes a client comes to you with an idea that's not just good but also *does* good. Author Sharon Wishnow did just that when she asked me to design a web page that would educate readers of her upcoming novel, THE PELICAN TIDE (https://amzn.to/3RhdrMD), on the catastrophic ways the Deepwater Horizon oil spill of 2010, combined with the effects of climate change, ate away at the shores of Louisiana.
This small project took me down a rabbit hole of combing through archive images of the spill, but also satellite data showing the rapid erosion of Barataria Bay in Louisiana, home to Grande Isle, and where Sharon's heroine faces an uphill battle against the oil spill to save her cajun restaurant.... and a pelican.
Grand Isle is a real place with real people with a rich history and a unique way of life. Grand Isle needs our help to survive.
