Tip #7 Where to put your main keyword

Here are the places that you NEED to put your main keyword in:

in the title of the page
In the URL of the page
In the description at the top
In the introduction
In one sub-menu
and sparsely in the text, without exaggerating.

Put them there and you have a much better chance of winning the first place on Google once the page is indexed.

Tip #6 Flesh out the article

MY FAVORITE TIP. Many people what to write a page and they do not know where to start or how to structure the text. For tip #5, we grouped our keywords by topic.

Let’s use the same example - trip to France: food keywords, attraction keywords, transportation food keywords, etc. So you will need:

An introduction
A section about French food
A section of what attractions to see
A section on how to get around France
Etc…
Conclusion

You just broke down the sections of your piece. Now you know exactly what to write about.

Tip #5 Group your keywords

You will see that many of your keywords focus on particular topics.

By grouping them on your sheet, you will automatically build the sections for your article.
Add Tab 4 to your Excel sheet: group keywords that cover similar ideas or topics in separate columns.
Example - trip to France: food keywords, attraction keywords, transportation food keywords, etc.

Tip #4 Clean up your keyword list

Let’s make sense of all the complementary keywords you kept on Tab 1 to your Excel sheet

Add Tab 2 to your Excel sheet: Remove self-contained keywords. If a KW is “digital marketing” and another is “online digital marketing”, delete the 1st one as the 2nd covers both.

Add Tab 3 to your Excel sheet: Now put all your complementary keywords in 1 long column and delete duplicates.

Now that you have listed all the keywords you would like to use, you need to choose your main keyword. Keep it separate on your Excel sheet.

All the other keywords are complementary keywords. They will help you show up in Google search results more often since they are related to the topic. We will add them once in the text. Remember to keep the text natural and relevant.

Tip #2 Keeping Track of Keywords

Since you may end up with a few keywords, it’s good practice to prepare an excel sheet to track your keywords for each page or article. Here is mine is structured:

Tab 1: I list every keyword I like by column by the search tool. Then I sort each column alphabetically

Tip #1 How to choose your Keywords

There are two general kinds of keywords: short-tail keywords and long-tail keywords.

Short-tail keywords are basic ones that are very competitive because many strong sites already rate for them. You may end up on page 40 of the results. Ex:

Shoes
Seo
Marketing

What we want to find are keywords that have a good search volume (1k+ a month) but low competition. This is wah we want: the long-tail keywords. Using these target your audience and you may end up on page 1 of the results. Ex:

Men’s running shoes on sale
Best Seo Practices
Newest marketing techniques

SEO Tip #7 H2 and H3

We looked earlier at the H1 tag, which is usually the title of the page. If it’s a good one, Google will know what you are talking about.

But to reinforce the power of SEO, you should use H2 and H3 tags as well. This way, if Google suggests your link on a search result, it’s because Google thinks your link answers the question best.

H2s are usually used in the first paragraph, which should be your page description. 1 or 3 concise sentences and include your main keyword.

H3s are used as titles for the sections of your article. Ex: how apples are grown. Health benefits of apples, how to cook apples, etc.

SEO Tip #6 Internal links

If you are not connecting your own pages with internal links DO IT NOW!

This is super important and will help boost your SEO. Now you want to connect pages that support each other, not just any random page. This gives your website authority.

And be careful about choosing the right anchor text for your link. This is where you want to use your keywords also. Here are the 4 most common ones

Exact Match Anchor Text - OK. ex: using the same title of the page you are linking to.

Partial Match Anchor Text - BEST, use a complimentary keyword in a question or phrase.

Branded Anchor Text - BEST for good DA, don’t overuse though. This means linking to a company’s website that is well known, ex: sports articles and you link to “Nike”

Search predict type - OK. in Google, search one or two keywords related to your page and look at the dropdown of Google’s suggestions. These are the terms that are the most searched, choose one that suits you. Note: these can be very competitive keywords.

SEO Tip #5 Image alt tag and name

An image is worth a thousand words, and that is true for your website pages. Or you could imbed a video, a podcast, a document.

These are all called multimedia and they really help retain the attention of the readers. But how can they be for our benefit for SEO? Simple, with the ATL tag.

When you upload multimedia to your platform, you will see a few blocks that you can fill out. It may be written Alternative Text. Add here a short description of what the image shows and include your keywords in there!
