Julia Tincombe Designs Logo design, branding, layout design and more! Whatever your design needs Julia Tincombe Designs creates digital works suited exactly to your vision!

I'm Julia Tincombe and I love everything design. I'm a recent graduate of Ryerson University's Graphic Communications Management program where I developed my skills and passion for design. In my time at Ryerson I flourished in my studies, winning multiple awards for my work including the William Somerville Memorial Award for top standing in Prepress Technology, the Hans Muller Sr. Award for top st

anding in Graphic Arts Finishing, and the PAC Award of Excellence for top standing in Layout and Design.

Previously, I was a designer in the St. Michael’s Hospital Medical Media Department and a Teaching Assistant for Layout and Design at Ryerson University. I strongly believe in team collaboration, pushing the boundaries of creativity, and the comedic value of a great pun. When I’m not designing you can find me reading, baking, painting, practicing my photography or diving head-first into yet another new hobby.

Logo design concepts for the new Engineers Without Borders Canada-Africa Innovation Fellowship.

Concept #1: Emanating shapes create a feeling of movement and flow of ideas and innovation between Canadian and African Fellows.

Concept #2: Individual shapes come together to create a hidden silhouette of the African continent, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and collaboration.

Concept #3: Main logo shape is a stylized minimalist silhouette of the African comprised of “speech bubble” shapes, evoking the importance of conversation and collaboration.

Concept #4: Negative space creates a path that draws the viewers’ eyes in towards the Baobab tree growing on a new horizon. The Baobab is already a recognized symbol of growth used in the EWB member journey. The logo symbolizes this journey from working within the EWB Canada perspective, towards working more directly with ventures in Africa.

Looking back at unused design concepts for the Engineers Without Borders annual Run 2 End Poverty.

Sometimes your favourite idea as a designer isn't always the one that gets picked, and that's okay!

Like most things this past year, EWB Canada’s annual conference, which hosts speakers and attendees from all over the globe, had to be done a bit differently this year, and moved online.

I was tasked with developing a logo and identity for this year’s Virtual xChange. I wanted to encompass the idea of coming together and collaborating, even while physically apart.

The use of motherboard components, forming four hands coming together in the shape of an “X” incorporates this idea of the collaborating virtual community.

My commissions are currently open. Message me for a logo package for your new 2021 business, or any other design needs!

Logo design, branding and collateral for Engineers Without Borders Canada's annual Run to End Poverty.

This year, like many other things, was a bit different and took place as a virtual run. Nonetheless, participants were able to raise $30,000 to help fund ventures in Sub-saharan Africa!

Congrats to all the runners!

Always excited to be a part of initiatives like this 🌍

Writerscape is a community and space for aspiring and emerging writers that offers free webinars, video writing prompts for adults and kids, as well as self-paced writing courses. For this project, the client expressed the desire for a modern look incorporating some sort of “writing” imagery.

I pitched several designs that incorporated this imagery through the use of negative space. The winning design featured the silhouette of a book within the letter ‘E’ of Writerscape. @ Toronto, Ontario

As part of their 2019 fall season, the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto hosted Moroccan Cultural Week in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Canada. The week long event featured a world-class lineup of art, performers, and speakers for an immersive cultural celebration of Moroccan/Canadian heritage.

I was approached to create the overall branding, logo and collateral for this event. For the logo, I fused imagery of both Morocco and Canada in order to celebrate this unique heritage. This was done by incorporating the national flag elements of the maple leaf and the Moroccan star into the intricate geometric patterns so commonly seen in Islamic and Moroccan art. @ Aga Khan Museum

Engineers Without Borders Canada Direct Mail Fundraising Campaign

As a non-profit organization, EWB Canada often relies on donations in order to invest in positive social change in sub-Saharan Africa and Canada. Several times a year, EWB Canada reaches out to its community for donations of any size, that may help in aiding their goal of creating a better world. I have been commissioned to design the assets for both the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 fundraising campaigns.

For these campaigns, I designed several items for their direct mail initiative, including the windowed envelope, a personal letter and an impact infographic, as well as assets for social media, and email solicitations. The campaigns were both very successful, with the Fall campaign raising over $183,000, 122% over their initial goal.
