🔥 Come get a sneak peek at my wildfire graphic novel! 🔥

I finally get to share what I've been up to, at a bunch of free events around the West Kootenay: Come meet me and my co-writer Anne DeGrace at your local library (joined by the great Leesa Dean and Renée Harper at the Castlegar & District Public Library), and check out our exhibition up at the Nelson Public Library through the end of May!

Danger trees are the first thing crews clear on the fireline - they'd be as wide as a fridge coming down on you 🌲 Advance teams don't usually miss em, but this sample page comes from a close call a firefighter told us about: a big tree hadn't been spotted burning from the inside

Working on what our page layouts will look like: main story panels with extra background details around the margins (that equation for when a hollow trunk cracks is from Huang et al., 2017 ... I'm being a geek)

Figuring out what fire/smoke look like in the book ❤️‍🔥

R Kikuo Johnson is a hell of an artist who uses beautiful spot colour for fire in his award-winning "No One Else" (Fantagraphics Books) - I figure I need to go in a different direction, so maybe fire in black and white, and an overlay of smoke that gradually smothers the pages as the season progresses?
