Social is dead; only media left.

I've been working in social media for a long period. And recently with all the new changes happening with social. I would like to share my key insights:

# 1. Influencers are not numbers.

Don't work with influencers based on the numbers. Influencers are not media outlets with guarantied exposures. Don't value them based on numbers, value them based on how verbal and social they are with followers.

Best advice understand the level of their audience by analyzing the comments section.

# 2. Social Strategist vs Social Media Manager

You fail by mixing them up. Your managers job is to be more social with the potential buyers & existing audience. Your strategists job is to share their vision on how to use social media as a marketing channel.

or you should teach your social media manager pretty well about your OKRs & Buyer personas.

# 3. Online Communities are not future

Every social media company is telling you that communities are future. They frankly aren't based on what I see. I have studied community channels of small businesses, tech companies like Adobe, etc.

many are dead now & few are hardly active. The problem is dictatorship like strategy where company shares their own content & ideas. and that limits the topic of discussions. communities don't work like that, you as the founder want the profit. But communities grow if you listen & respond, not by commands.

Online communities on WhatsApp, Discord or Slack will be key to great brand presence. When you build a better space for discussion.

# 4. Harsh Truth about Organic reach

With twitter revealing that likes make most impact on organic reach. The same framework is used for other social media platforms.

That's why Brands use 80:20 rule is the best for social media content strategy. 80% of the time you should create for people with an intent to increase brand engagement. 20% of the time you should create for algorithms to tap into new audience. This is achievable through broad content like industry trends, Meme content & broad content.

# 5. Why I say social is dead

I see more and more brands making decisions based on the goals of achieving X numbers on social media. Social media is not about that, the essential goal of social media marketing is

Personalization of the average customer experience. And always setting long term goals with your social media strategy. Social Media done right helps you do marketing with people, not marketing to people.

Build your potential community members that spread the word about your business.

# 6. Consistency in distribution

Sick of seeing coaches yell at me to post 365 days. That's for creators that haven't figured out their product market & brand purpose.

As a business, your goal should be tracking what type of queries are being searched on social media. And when they're relevant to your business. Build a distribution strategy to spread your existing content in those spaces. For Social, always create sustainable content that is shareable for many queries.

Then use distribution strategy + Social listening to always be there for your buyers.

# 7. ChatGPT is changing Editorial Content

Editorial content on social media to help audiences through valuable input is changing. Because most of the editorial content is too basic & one google search away. And now with ChatGPT that type of content might not help you to differentiate your brand from others.

That's why editorial content is getting more personal and successful brands are sharing. "how I" & "Why I" content instead of "How-to" showing an element of real-time experience & knowledge. To make sure the audience finds the content more authentic & relevant.

Facebook se débarrasse de AUDIENCE INSIGHTS, un outil très utile pour découvrir tous les types de points de données démographiques. Vous pouvez explorer vos propres informations sur l'audience et même explorer en profondeur l'audience de l'un de vos concurrents en entrant sur leur page Facebook. Audience Insights affiche le titre du poste, l'emplacement, les goûts/intérêts, l'état de la relation, le niveau d'éducation et bien plus encore ! Bouh.
Au lieu de cela, vous utiliserez Business Suite Insights pour analyser votre propre public. Et, hélas, la possibilité de découvrir des données utiles sur les audiences de n'importe qui d'autre sera définitivement supprimée à compter du 1er juillet 2021.

NEW!! 💥 Facebook is starting to roll out POST TESTING for organic video content. 📺 Have you seen this feature in Creator Studio yet?!

You'll be able to test out different versions of your video post. Then, publish the one that performs best on views (or whichever metric you prefer).

First announced in early September, Facebook is now starting to roll this feature out to more users.

Facebook states, "Organic Video Post Testing in Creator Studio lets you test 2-4 variations of a non-ad video post to see which one your audience likes most. During the test, the posts are circulated to your audience, but not posted to your Page. When the test ends, the winning post is automatically published on your Page."

Facebook lists a bunch of 'Perks' -- a.k.a. the benefits of using the new Post Testing feature. These include:

▶︎ comparing any of the video aspects from title to thumbnail to descriptions
▶︎ testing up to four posts with the same video
▶︎ get results in as little as 10 minutes
▶︎ apply what you learn to future videos to keep growing your audience

This is potentially a very excellent feature, folks!! Of course, Facebook is *really* pushing video these days. Video posts get the best organic reach and engagement. Facebook is so determined to be a major player (ha, pun intended) in the digital streaming television arena. Competing right up there with Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, YouTube, et al.

Looks like the feature is on desktop Creator Studio only (not the companion mobile app), and is rolling out just to some users. I actually don't have it yet myself! 🤔

BREAKING: Facebook Removes the 20% Text Limit on Ad Images (via Search Engine Journal)

How big of an impact is this going to have on your Facebook strategy?

The long-standing rule had been shifted to less stringent over the years, with this week marking their complete abandonment of the 20% text rule.

Did you get this notification from Facebook? Effective October 1, 2020, Facebook is updating its Terms of Service to add in this clause, ❝We also can remove or restrict access to your content, services or information if we determine that doing so is reasonably necessary to avoid or mitigate adverse legal or regulatory impacts to Facebook.❞

Woa.

This new addition appears at the end of clause 3.2 which is about, "What you can share and do on Facebook." All wording of that entire clause remains the same. It's only the above one sentence in quotes that has been added.

🤔 "...content, services or information..." is quite the catch-all for everything and anything, would you agree?

To be clear, Facebook wants to encourage users to carry on expressing themselves and to share content that is important to them, but *NOT* at the expense of the safety and well-being of others or the integrity of Facebook's community. This includes any content that is "unlawful, misleading, discriminatory or fraudulent" or that "infringes or violates someone else's rights, including their intellectual property rights." This wording was already in Facebook's ToS. The big difference now is that, yes, it appears Facebook can choose to censor anything it deems might warrant censorship. 😮
