This is fun.

Fourth grade students at St. Elizabeth Seton Preschool and Elementary School in Rapid City, South Dakota, designed and built a marine lock as a class project. They took their inspiration from their wonderful teacher, and self-proclaimed Boatnerd, Brenda Mizenko, and from our Junior Mariner’s Activity Book. The project was a great success with the young marine engineers proving that teamwork and imagination extend all the way from the Great Lakes to the Great Plains. One long and two short for the students and Brenda!

This is fun.

Brenda Mizenko is a grade school teacher at St. Elizabeth Seton Preschool and Elementary School in Rapid City, SD. She’s also an apiarist, breeder of Small Munsterlanders (Google it) and a Boatnerd. Yeah, she’s “that” teacher. Anyway, Brenda has been a strong supporter of our Seaway Queens project, both the coffee table book and the Junior Mariner’s Activity Book edition. In fact, she points to the latter as the inspiration for her newest class project, building a functional marine lock with her students so they can better understand and appreciate inland shipping. We salute Brenda’s good work in the Great Lakes state of South Dakota!
