Over the past five years, the Canadian dollar has lost roughly one-quarter of its value against the Mexican peso.

In September 2021, C$1 was worth about 16.26 Mexican pesos. Today, it’s around 12.70 pesos — meaning the Canadian dollar buys significantly fewer pesos than it did five years ago. (exchangerates.org.uk)

🚨 CANADA-WIDE WARRANTS ISSUED FOR ALBERTA FATHER ACCUSED OF ABDUCTION

Edmonton police have issued Canada-wide warrants for Scot MacDermid, 42, who has been missing with his two young children since August 28.

His children, Lesley, 9, and George, 6, were last seen with him in Edmonton. Police later learned the three were seen with another man in Lloydminster on the same day.

That man has since been located and spoken to by investigators.

MacDermid is wanted on two counts of abduction in contravention of a custody order.

Police say an Amber Alert will not be issued based on the information currently available.

Anyone with information about MacDermid or the children is asked to contact Edmonton police at 780-423-4567.

💍 JEWELRY THIEF GETS 10 MONTHS OF HOUSE ARREST AFTER 13 MONTHS IN JAIL

A 22-year-old Barrie man has been sentenced to 10 months of house arrest after pleading guilty to a dramatic shopping mall jewelry store robbery.

Ahmed Al-Saeed had already spent 13 months behind bars following his arrest in August 2025.

He admitted taking part in the robbery at Dia Amore Jewellers inside Georgian Mall. The masked thieves used hammers to smash display cases and steal jewelry.

The getaway vehicle, a stolen Honda Civic, crashed while police were pursuing the suspects.

The judge ultimately sentenced him to 10 months of house arrest, with certain exceptions, including shopping for necessities and attending the mosque.

He will also be on two years of probation and is banned from possessing weapons for 10 years.

🧡 TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION: A TIME TO REFLECT

On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Halifax’s Mi’kmaq community is holding a series of events to honour residential school survivors and continue the dialogue.

In Halifax, city hall will be lit up in orange through Friday. The Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre will also host a salmon dinner Thursday for Treaty Day.

For Pam Glode-Desrochers, the centre’s executive director, the day is also an opportunity to bring communities together and learn more about one another.

Despite the racism that still exists today, she says dialogue has helped bring significant progress in recent years.

The centre is also continuing construction of a new 70,000-square-foot facility, designed to better serve Halifax’s growing urban Indigenous community.

A time for remembrance, dialogue and building stronger relationships. 🧡

A major development within the Portuguese national team.

Cristiano Ronaldo left the team’s training camp Wednesday, just hours after coach Jorge Jesus announced that he would not start Thursday’s Nations League match against Denmark.

Ronaldo said he would reveal “in time” the truth about the reasons behind his departure.

The Portuguese captain had already been left out of Sunday’s match against Norway. Since then, rumors of tension between Ronaldo and Jorge Jesus had been growing.

The coach, however, says there is no conflict between him and Ronaldo and that the same rules apply to every player.

Ronaldo has scored 146 goals for Portugal, a men’s international record, and is still pursuing the milestone of 1,000 career goals.

The FBI has added Satinderjeet Singh, also known as “Goldy Brar,” to its Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list and is offering a reward of up to US$1 million for information leading to his arrest.

Singh is wanted in the U.S. on federal charges involving racketeering, extortion and drug trafficking. The FBI also alleges that he and Lawrence Bishnoi ordered the 2023 assassination of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar outside a Sikh temple in Surrey, B.C. (fbi.gov)

The case remains ongoing, and Singh is considered a fugitive.

What looked like a friendly greeting allegedly turned into a quick theft.

On Friday, September 25, at around 11:40 a.m., an elderly man was reportedly approached by a woman who had just stepped out of a black Hyundai Tucson with Ontario licence plates.

She allegedly called out “Papa!” and moved toward him as though she wanted to give him a hug.

According to the reported account, she allegedly took advantage of the close contact to remove a chain from his neck. She then reportedly returned to the vehicle, where a male driver was waiting, and the pair left the area.

The incident is a reminder to be cautious when someone you don’t know suddenly approaches you, even if the interaction appears friendly.

🇨🇦🇺🇸 U.S. bans nearly $1 billion worth of Canadian imports

A new escalation has taken place in the trade dispute between Ottawa and Washington.

As of Tuesday, the United States has banned nearly US$967 million worth of Canadian products, including certain alcoholic beverages, dairy products and motorcycles.

Alcoholic beverages account for about 87% of the value of the products affected.

The move comes after new U.S. tariffs and Canadian retaliation. Both countries are also facing uncertainty over the future of CUSMA.

TRUMP EXPECTS CANADA BACK AT THE TABLE IN WEEKS

Donald Trump says he expects Canada to return to the negotiating table within three or four weeks — and predicts the U.S. will “win everything.”

“They’re gonna come in and they’re gonna say, ‘Sir, we are sorry,’” Trump said Monday. He added that he believes a deal will ultimately be reached, but that it “is gonna be fair.”

His comments came hours before U.S. import bans on certain Canadian goods, including some alcoholic beverages, dairy products and motorcycles, were set to take effect at 12:01 a.m. ET Tuesday.

The comments come amid an escalating Canada-U.S. trade dispute following the collapse of negotiations last month.
