As I celebrated my birthday last weekend, I reflected about how grateful I am for the year that taught me to choose myself.

My health. My family. The work that matters. Boundaries without guilt.

I became more present for the people I love. That’s the kind of growth worth marking.

And I wanted to capture it. Mateo H Casis saw the new me, and held space for this version of myself to be witnessed. These photos are proof that I’m not just thinking differently. I’m being differently.

This week as I walked into John Abbott College to facilitate a workshop about neurodiversity in the classroom with the amazing Meghrig Terzian something hit me…

These conversations are happening more often now. In schools. In staff rooms. In communities that are finally making space for diverse brains.

We’re not just “raising awareness” anymore, we’re building something.

Teachers are asking questions.
Students are seeing themselves in the stories we tell.
And rooms full of people are learning that different doesn’t mean less.

It’s exciting. It’s hopeful. And honestly? It’s about time.

The more we sketch these ideas out loud, the more connected we all become. ✏️

They’re loud, golden, unstoppable, and absolutely cannot sit still for more than twelve seconds.
They will cheer for you louder than anyone in the room. They will also definitely forget what they were saying mid-sentence. And they were saying it with their WHOLE heart.

I keep noticing in rooms, teams, and workshops that people are carrying A LOT!

The stress is louder. The pace is relentless. Getting people out of that noise, even for an hour, feels harder and harder to do.

And still, I bring my paper and pencils everywhere.
Some days the ideas pour out. Other days I just hold the pen. Both days count.

Because I believe a doodle can be a doorway. A blank page can be the break someone didn’t know they needed.

My sketches aren’t art. They’re an invitation to exhale.

The world feels heavy right now. Loud, uncertain, a little scary. And in the middle of all of it, the one thing that keeps coming back to me is this: we have to show up for each other.

My art became a bridge.

Strangers became givers.
And a dear friend felt held by people she’s never met.

Sometimes a drawing isn’t just a drawing.
Sometimes it’s a hug delivered through a stranger’s hands. 🖍️🤍
