The message and inspiration for the design is shared by the artist:
“The design itself is to help raise awareness that every child matters and to remember the survivors of Canada’s residential school systems. I wanted to not only show that it’s still affecting us generation to generation, but at the same time incorporate empowerment and us leaning on one another to help overcome, heal and reconcile. The background of the design was an idea both my mom and I came up with which was to change the outline of the mountains to represent the Yamnuska mountain right here in Alberta.
