Always creating, sketching, or designing online? At VIU, we channel that talent into real career potential. Our Graphic Design program blends creativity with practical skills using the tools today’s professionals rely on, like Adobe, Figma, and AI-enhanced platforms.

Design is evolving–and so is the way we are teaching it. VIU’s close-knit campus and smaller class sizes allow our students grow their skills and their confidence by getting a more personalized experience.

There’s still time to join our program but seats are limited.

Applications for the Fall 2025 semester are open until Wednesday, April 30.

If you missed our groovy skate night, don't worry! Join us March 25th for Rolling in the 90's. We'll be at the Centennial Building at Beban Park in Nanaimo playing all the nostalgic favourites. Come support the graphic design grads of 2023!

This event is a little different from our last one. From 430pm-630pm, everyone is welcome. Adults only (19+) from 7pm-10pm.

Portfolio Night is almost here, our annual portfolio review event. Bring your work and get a hand putting together an application portfolio that will help you get into the program you want!

We’ll be holding two events in 2023: a virtual Portfolio Night on Monday, January 23, 2023 via Zoom, and an in-person Portfolio Night on Tuesday, January 24. Both events will be at 6:00pm PST. You can either screenshare your work or bring it to VIU’s Nanaimo campus, and VIU faculty will help you assemble the best possible submission to meet the requirements of the program you're after.

Everyone’s welcome; you'll need to let the event coordinator, Patrick Foster ([email protected]) know you're coming to get an invitation link for the event.

Canadians produce roughly 1800lbs of garbage per person annually, with approximately 35% of that waste packaging. Fueled by this reality, VIU graphic design students found over-packaged products and redesigned them to be more ecologically responsible.

Unwrapped: A package design exhibit where less is more showcases the outcomes of this challenge. The working process and final packages are exhibited from November 22 to December 1 at the View Gallery at Nanaimo's VIU Campus. Open 10 am to 4 pm, Tuesday to Friday.
