Service providers say it all the time. “I’m here to support your business.”
But I’ve been thinking lately… what does support actually mean?
Because if I told you, “I want to support your business by managing your social media,” I think I should be able to tell you exactly what that support looks like.
To me, support is personal.
I think about how I support my family. How I support my friends.
It comes from a place of genuinely caring about them.
So when I say I support my clients, I don’t mean, “Sure, I can do that.”
I mean I care about what we’re building together.
I show up. I pay attention. I ask questions when I need to understand something and I also come to the table with ideas, options and solutions.
👉I don’t want you sending me an email with a problem and getting five more questions back when what you really need is someone to help you figure it out.
I don’t want to simply check the “social media managed” box and call that support.
And I certainly don’t want to make assumptions, judge you for being busy, or expect things from you that we never agreed to.
Because we all have a lot on our plates. Business owners especially.
Sometimes you need someone to take something off your plate.
Sometimes you need someone to say, “Here’s what I think we should do.”
Sometimes you need flexibility.
Sometimes you need someone to notice that something isn’t working and bring it to your attention.
And sometimes you just need to know that the person you hired actually gives a damn about your business.
That, to me, is support.
Caring. Understanding. Showing up. Helping.
And honestly?
I think we should expect more from the word “support.”
