Also Today in Cool History:
Sept. 4, 1888 - George Eastman registered the name "Kodak" and patented his roll-film camera, the first series of Kodak 'box' cameras. The camera, meant for amateur photographers who didn’t want to bother with chemicals and technical processes, took 100 exposures per roll and cost $25. Kodak's slogan was "You press the button, we do the rest". When the 100 pictures of the film were shot, the photographer could mail the camera to Eastman Kodak, where all the technical work would be done by skilled people. The camera was then loaded with a new film and returned to the owner. As soon as the 100 (2.5 inch) prints were finished, they were also sent.
