Media spotlight for our clients Tire Stewardship BC and Interchange Recycling 🌟

Hundreds of Abbotsford students from Barrowtown Elementary, Dormick Park Elementary, and Ten-Broeck Elementary, celebrated Stó:lō culture through the performance of bilingual songs on June 10th 2026. These students preformed along side members of Éy St’élmexw St’elt’ílém / Good Medicine Songs (GMS) and The Wilds Band.

Through this program students learned how these ideas foster a stronger, healthier community. Through storytelling, Indigenous languages, and music helping enviornmental stewardship be tangible for young leaders, connecting Indigneous language and cultural teaching with everyday action including recycling and reducing waste.

“We’re really fortunate to connect with one another and the land through language, and that we have this youth who are working to revitalize the language and reminding us to take care of the Earth,” said Gardner.

Through partnership with the Indigenous Education Department of Abbotsford School District, the City of Abbotsford’s Culture City Program Series, and with support from Interchange Recycling and Tire Stewardship BC (TSBC) real change and growth can be made.

Media spotlight for our client, VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation 🌟

Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) is now the first in Canada to use robots designed to help prepare chemotherapy treatments. These $3 million robots were funded by the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation’s Greater Than Cancer campaign and will reduce the time staff spend preparing medications and lower the risk of exposure to hazardous drugs.

Many staff members at VGH say the technology is transforming how chemotherapy treatments are prepared. Currently, the robots only prepare treatments for leukemia and bone marrow transplant patients. With growing demand for cancer treatment, staff say the new robots can improve efficiency, streamline workflows, and help support the healthcare system.

SOMA is excited to announce the launch of our 2026 Summer Ambassador Program with Interchange Recycling .

Over the next six weeks, our two incredible ambassadors, Kithara and Fernanda, will be visiting communities across British Columbia to connect with residents, answer questions, and educate how to safely and properly recycle materials accepted through Interchange Recycling's programs.

Interchange Recycling helps ensure products such as used oil, oil filters, antifreeze, and all automotive containers are recycled responsibly.

The ambassadors will visit community events and Return Collection Facilities, gathering valuable feedback, raise awareness about recycling practices, and help make recycling more accessible and understandable for British Columbians.

At SOMA, we believe community engagement is essential to building a more sustainable future. We are proud to support a program that encourages environmental responsibility, empowers local communities, and helps keep recyclable materials out of landfills through education and action.

Check out their schedule on our website and see if they’re stopping by an event in your area!

Today, we recognize World Oceans Day, a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of protecting our marine ecosystems. It serves as a reminder that collective action can create meaningful change for the health of our planet.

Today, an estimated 170 trillion pieces of plastic are circulating in our oceans, with plastics accounting for approximately 80% of all marine pollution. Organizations such as The Ocean Legacy Foundation are working to address the growing issue. We encourage you to learn more about their work and explore ways to support the reduction of ocean waste.

At SOMA, we are committed to working with organizations that prioritize sustainability and environmental responsibility. We believe meaningful change starts with awareness, and we’re proud to support initiatives that help create a healthier future for our communities and our planet. Last year, we participated in a Shoreline Cleanup initiative through Ocean Wise, and we will be doing it again this year!

Media spotlight for our client Recycling ! 🌟

Interchange Recycling collects, reuses, and properly recycles used automotive fluids across British Columbia. Last year, nearly 50 million litres of used oil has been responsibly recycled through Interchange Recycling’s program. The organization is also expanding it’s automotive container program with 11 new categories.

”We are making it convenient for residents of British Columbia to recycle these materials more effectively with a trusted partner,” said Jenn Robson, director of operations at Interchange Recycling.

The expansion reflects a growing commitment to making recycling more accessible and convenient for British Columbians. By accepting a wider range of automotive containers, Interchange Recycling is helping keep more materials out of landfills and supporting responsible environmental stewardship across the province.

Media spotlight for our client VGH+ Hometown Heroes Lottery. 🌟

On November 4, 2024, Julia Kwan’s life changed in an instant when she was struck by a dump truck, sustaining life-threatening injuries that required urgent, complex trauma care at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), including eight surgeries and nine weeks of intensive treatment.

More than a year later, she is still recovering physically and emotionally, but is now sharing her story in support of the Hometown Heroes Lottery, which helps fund critical medical equipment and patient care across B.C., including at VGH.

Every ticket helps strengthen care at VGH, UBC Hospital, G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre, and across Vancouver Coastal Health, while also supporting the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund.

At a pivotal moment for Canada’s clean-technology sector, the country is rapidly emerging as a global leader in carbon dioxide removal (CDR).

NorthX Climate Tech and SOMA teamed up in October last year to ensure this shift was recognized, transforming a series of strategic investments into a powerful signal for Canada’s climate economy. 🌍

SOMA developed a strategic communications campaign anchored around NorthX’s $3.4 million investment in four carbon removal ventures and a landmark portfolio breakthrough with Microsoft. We leaned into narrative positioning and high-impact media relations to highlight NorthX not just as an investor, but as a catalyst for national policy and industrial competitiveness.

The result? Significant national attention with over 77 media mentions and a potential reach of 20+ million, reinforcing NorthX’s role as a cornerstone of Canada’s carbon removal ecosystem.

This week, SOMA attended Web Summit Vancouver, which brought together global tech innovators and startups to spark conversations around AI, green technology and digital infrastructure. 📡

As a PR agency focused on supporting organizations in the tech-for-good and sustainability sectors, it was inspiring to hear from leading climate and technology professionals, alongside some familiar faces in the space.

We attended a panel moderated by Ka-Hay Law, CIO of NorthX Climate Tech, featuring leading climate VCs discussing how Canada’s resource base, technical talent, and policy alignment are helping shape globally competitive climate tech companies.

This theme continued in another panel exploring why international climate ventures and investors are choosing Canada as their North American entry point. Our client, Active Impact Investments, was represented by panelist Sam Hasty, who shared valuable insights on this trend.

Meaningful discussions also highlighted Canada’s growing leadership in climate tech, with a focus on protecting energy infrastructure from climate threats through AI-driven detection, autonomous systems, and resilient grid innovation, a space reflected in companies like ThinkLabs AI working to modernize the electrical grid.

We are proud to witness that Canada is not just participating in the global climate tech conversation, it is helping shape it. 🚀

Media spotlight for our client Light House! 🌟

Light House’s Construction Plastics Initiative (CPI) diverted nearly 38,000 kilograms of plastic waste from eight construction sites across Vancouver, with researchers finding that 77% of collected plastics were recyclable.

“There was really no focus at all on the construction sector, which is arguably one of the largest contributors in terms of plastic waste,” said Gil Yaron, Managing Director of Circular Innovation at Light House.

The initiative highlights how better on-site systems, industry collaboration, and investment in recycling infrastructure can help turn construction plastics into new products for the built environment.
