Hundreds of Abbotsford students from Barrowtown Elementary, Dormick Park Elementary, and Ten-Broeck Elementary, celebrated StĂł:lĹŤ culture through the performance of bilingual songs on June 10th 2026. These students preformed along side members of Éy St’élmexw St’elt’ĂlĂ©m / Good Medicine Songs (GMS) and The Wilds Band.
Through this program students learned how these ideas foster a stronger, healthier community. Through storytelling, Indigenous languages, and music helping enviornmental stewardship be tangible for young leaders, connecting Indigneous language and cultural teaching with everyday action including recycling and reducing waste.
“We’re really fortunate to connect with one another and the land through language, and that we have this youth who are working to revitalize the language and reminding us to take care of the Earth,” said Gardner.
Through partnership with the Indigenous Education Department of Abbotsford School District, the City of Abbotsford’s Culture City Program Series, and with support from Interchange Recycling and Tire Stewardship BC (TSBC) real change and growth can be made.
