🥔 Ugly potatoes. Big impact: https://hubs.ly/Q04xjlzh0

Ugly Potato Day moved more than 543,000 pounds of fresh produce into the hands of people in Surrey, B.C.—earning a Guinness World Record along the way. 🌎

The event shows what’s possible when surplus food, growers and communities are connected—but also highlights the need for better funding, storage, transportation and food-rescue infrastructure. 🤝

Ugly Potato Day moved more than half a million pounds of produce into people’s hands last month, securing a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. For organizer Tyler Heppell, the achievement proves growers can be part of the food-security solution — if the system helps cover the cost of g...

From surveillance and traceability to farm biosecurity and export logistics, these decisions have real implications for growers and the wider potato industry.

Can cattle help rebuild soil health in P.E.I.’s potato rotation? 🐄🥔

Early results from an AAFC research project show rotational grazing can return nutrients to forage fields without reducing the potato yield that follows.
Researchers have also found no soil degradation or increase in greenhouse gas emissions so far. The bigger question is whether repeated grazing can build soil organic matter, improve soil structure and increase water-holding capacity.
