It's launch day for Julie at Ruffled Rose Veils and we are so pleased with her new site! Julie came to us with a Wix website that didn't fully match what her vision was for her affordable yet luxury wedding veil design business, and didn't support her with the technology and functionality she felt she was missing. With more orders than she knew what to do with, she needed a system that was scalable and beautiful.

Here's how we helped Ruffled Rose shine online:
✨ Custom-designed Wordpress website
✨ E-commerce functionality with multiple payment processors
✨ Structured product tagging with categories and custom attributes so shoppers can find the perfect veil
✨ Wholesale portal and custom wholesale pricing
✨ SEO for pages and many products
✨ Custom international shipping rates and timeframes
✨ Custom product tabs, fully editable by Julie without the need for code
✨ Analytics & social media tracking setup, for website & SEO reporting, and for when she decides to start paid advertising
✨ and even more that I'm probably forgetting!

Congrats again on your gorgeous new website, Julie, and thanks for choosing us! It was an honour to help you bring your vision to life! 🥰 Check it out at ruffledroseveils.com

A lot has happened since this photo was taken last summer.

I got married and celebrated my first anniversary with my husband. I quit my job to take this business solo and full-time. I got a puppy, now a year and a half old. I launched over 15 new websites, and supported many other clients with monthly and one-off projects. I survived my first full wedding season as a vendor myself, and continuously emphasize with my wedding vendor clients. I celebrated two birthdays. And I lost my best friend.

I’ve been quiet on this account for a while processing what I want to do with Something Blue, keeping the business systems running but the navigation turned off. Some days, it didn’t feel right to continue on the same path, and I wanted to leave this chapter behind as it was. Other days, I had a burst of motivation and determination for the future, ready to take things to the next level and blaze through my to-do list. While those few high days were great, the many low days brought me back to earth quickly that I didn’t want to post anything before I was sure of the path I wanted to take.

One of the final large tasks Julia and I worked on last fall- before she left the company to pursue other projects- was a weekend we curated, Dreamshop. We gave ourselves a staycation at a hotel downtown and spent the weekend recapping what worked and didn’t work in our first few years of business, improvements we wanted to make to our existing services, and truly dream up where we wanted to take Something Blue (and a few other business ventures too).

I feel like I’ve been on autopilot the past few months as a business owner, keeping the ship afloat on the water but not thinking about where it’s going….to be honest, I wasn’t really sure what the plan was until a couple weeks ago. I finally started having ideas again for new services I wanted to launch and bigger goals I wanted to achieve. It felt like it was the time to turn the navigation back on and set a course. So, I held a solo Dreamshop to give myself not a hard reset, but a software patch of sorts. Most importantly though, to create goals, ideas, and a plan for Something Blue.

Thank you to everyone who has been patient while I’ve been regaining my footing since July. Your understanding and support have not gone unnoticed, and are extremely appreciated and valued. I’m looking forward to being more active here again (and some other places too), and cannot wait to share the new projects coming out of Something Blue in the next few months.

xx Hannah

That feeling when you finally get a website that matches what your business offers!

After Brittany of .scripted sustained a hand injury, she pivoted from calligraphy to designing invitations. Only, the thought of updating her site to match her new services was daunting, so it stayed calligraphy-focused until we were able to help her reorganize her site to better reflect her products and services.

Check out some of Swiftly Scripted’s site upgrades:
✨ custom forms for ordering semi-custom invitations (including payment processing and file uploading), day-of stationery, and inquiring about custom invitations
✨ moved from Showit to WordPress for that juicy SEO power (plus some copywriting SEO upgrades)
✨ custom designed downloadable freebie with native form on site (No embedded forms needed!)
✨ brand new blog where she can share her expertise
✨ shop (TBA!) to sell wax seals and custom thank you notes

Congrats on your new site, Brittany! 🎉

PS - hi 👋 we haven’t met, but your photos are gorgeous and it was such a pleasure working with them on this site! ☺️

Hi, Julia here! They say if you love something that you should let it go so this is a little announcement from me to say that I have made the very hard decision to step away from this wonderful business that Hannah and I have built together. It seems like just yesterday that we were sitting in a Starbucks drive-thru and Hannah was entertaining this crazy idea I had to help wedding vendors with their online presence. Two pink drinks and a week later, Something Blue was born.

I am so thankful for all of the clients that I've had the pleasure to meet and work with over these last 2 years. For the clients who are currently on our roster, you are in amazing hands with Hannah since she will now be focusing on the business full-time! I am beyond excited for her!

As many of you know, once you join the SB family you stay a member forever and that goes for me too. If you ever want to reach out you are more than welcome to reach me on my personal Instagram, .co

I can't wait to see all of the amazing things that Something Blue will do and I'm cheering Hannah and all of the SB family on all the way! I feel blessed, honoured, and proud to have been a founder of this company. To end on one of my favourite quotes from a very brave bear: "how lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard" - Winnie the Pooh.

Love,
Julia

Feeling a little stuck? Feeling like you want to put some whiskey in your teacup instead of just tea? We totally feel you. This lockdown has us feeling a little down and not like our usual perky and imaginative selves. When we feel this way we go back to our “why”.

After listening to ’s audiobook, Start With Why (three times to be exact), it was life-changing and inspiring to know our true why.

We definitely recommend either reading or listening to the book but here are a couple of questions to get you started.

✨Why do you do what you do?
✨Why did you choose this path?
✨How can you take one step closer towards fulfilling your why?
✨What do you love doing doing in your business and what are some things that you don’t?
✨Can asking for help or delegating allow you to better reach your goals and fulfilling your why?

Our why is to be your business’ maid of honour, helping in any way we can to make you feel empowered in your online presence & marketing. We are your cheerleaders, biggest supporters, and trusted business & marketing strategists. That is what truly fills up our cup (whiskey only optional). ☕️What’s your why?

Our Story

Our story begins when our two cofounders couldn’t stop running into each other. First in a marketing course, then at a completely unrelated event, and finally when Julia started working in the same marketing department as Hannah. (We like to say it was meant to be.) Julia and Hannah would often go to the other for advice and feedback on their individual side hustle projects for clients, and soon became really close friends.

When Julia (finally) got engaged, she began her search for her wedding team. After looking at so many websites and Instagram profiles for vendors in the area, she went to Hannah with her findings: wedding professionals are great at what they do but they could use some support on the digital marketing front.

Cue the upbeat montage music, because after these two sorted out all the kinks and planned everything to the littlest detail, Something Blue was finally born.

Here at Something Blue, we believe in empowerment.
