Your boss wants sales, your community wants value, and well, you're in the middle with no budget.

That's the squeeze our founder broke down for 600+ social media managers at 's Content Creation Bootcamp earlier this month.

The reality is that you don't have to pick a side but you DO need a strategy that connects both.

Your newsletter template is doing more work than you think.

When we redesigned the Monthly Buzz for This Mother Means Business, the goal wasn't just to make it prettier. It was to make every future issue easier to send.

So we built it around three things:

A clear reading order. Your reader should never wonder where to look next. Personal note up top, offers in the middle, community and podcast links where skimmers will still catch them.

Sections built for a phone. Most newsletters get opened one-handed, standing in a kitchen, between seventeen other things. Short blocks, obvious buttons, breathing room.

Repeatable everything. Every section is a swap-and-go block. New month, new content, same structure. What used to be a blank page problem becomes a fill-in-the-blanks task.

Because here's the thing: good email design isn't decoration. It's fewer decisions every single send and fewer decisions means your newsletter actually goes out every month.

Your new outfit looks good on you, TMMB! Wear it well!

Kinda chic to jump on a trend that takes ten minutes to create yourself 🤌

This one is a list of small specific things you think are chic about your business and/or your industry. That's literally it. One line per slide with a relevant photo underneath.

It can even be the same photo if that's all you've got (that's what we did), but make sure you save the best one for last.

You do not need it to look polished, but you DO need it to sound like you.

Tell us what's kinda chic about your business/industry. The people want to know!

Canada Day just wrapped, our American friends are celebrating tomorrow, kids are officially out of school, and the internet is a little preoccupied with a certain wedding that may or may not be happening đź‘€

Which means if there was ever a weekend to close the laptop, this is it.

And we think you should! Canada only gets a few months of real summer and you deserve to actually be in it, but before you fully check out consider this your reminder that your brand is still out there while you’re gone.

People are still Googling you, still clicking your booking link, still landing on your profile and if any of that is outdated or broken, you’re quietly losing people without even knowing it.

Five things.

Twenty minutes.

Then go enjoy your weekend ✌️

Back in 2013, before anyone was talking about algorithms or content strategies or personal brands, we started Bowda as a social media management agency because we genuinely believed in what social could do.

For the first time ever, marketing wasn’t one way. You could talk back. You could find your people across the city, the country, the world. Brands could show up like actual humans and humans could hold brands accountable. It was exciting in a way that’s hard to fully explain now.

Thirteen years later, our feelings are more complicated…not about the work because we do still love the work, but somewhere along the way the noise got louder, the tactics got copied faster, and “authentic” became a strategy instead of a default. Everyone with a following started offering social media services. The algorithm became the whole conversation.

And honestly? Some days it’s a lot.

But here’s what we keep coming back to: the premise never changed. Connection. Reciprocity. Showing up like a real person for real people. That was true in 2013 and it’s still the only thing that actually works now.

We made this carousel today because it’s Social Media Day and we wanted to say something honest instead of something polished.

Our website *technically* works. We get found. We get leads. Clients book calls.

But here’s the thing about being a marketing agency: you know EXACTLY how hard your website could and should be working for you and the truth is ours hasn’t been pulling its weight.

We talk to businesses and brands every day about the gap between where their marketing is and where it could be. We build the case for showing up better online…and then we’d go back to a site that didn’t come close to reflecting what this agency actually is.

It was time to practice what we preach because we all know that people don’t follow what you say, they follow what you actually do.

New and improved bowdacreative.com is coming so soon (well as long as no client projects get in the way because they always come first 🤷🏻‍♀️)

Bigger was never the goal. Better was.

Over the years, we’ve had plenty of opportunities to grow faster.

More clients.

More people.

More layers.

But we’ve always been intentional about what we built and just as intentional about what we didn’ because every layer between strategy and ex*****on creates distance.

Distance from the work.

Distance from the details.

Distance from the relationships that make great partnerships possible.

We didn’t start Bowda to build the biggest agency, we started it to build the kind of agency we’d want to hire ourselves.

One where clients aren’t passed from person to person.

One where senior people stay involved.

One where relationships last for years, not quarters.

Thirteen years later, we still believe the best work happens when you’re close enough to care.

Small on purpose.
Senior by default.

We could tell you our summer is wide open and we'll squeeze you in no problem...but we aren't here to pretend.

We keep summer lighter on purpose. A lot of us have small humans home and Canada doesn't exactly hand out an endless supply of sunny months, so we'd like to actually be in them and you should too.

If a new website or brand is sitting on your fall wishlist, consider this your nudge. That kind of work is weeks, not days, and summer spots fill up. Your fall should be for showing the new thing off, not waiting on it.

So if September-you wants to walk in ready to roll, summer-you starts the conversation now.

Excited to share this brand refresh for one of our clients!

Not every brand needs a complete overhaul. Sometimes, if the foundation is already strong and you already love your logo, it’s about refining what’s there, adding the right supporting elements, and creating more consistency so the brand works harder and more cohesively across every touchpoint.

Some rebrands are about reinvention. This one was about alignment.

When Brandon brought us in, his team had nearly two decades of strategic recruiting experience. What they didn’t have was a name and a brand that matched how they actually worked: embedded, deliberate, and accountable to outcomes instead of placements.

So we built it with him.

Naming came first. After exploring multiple options together, the team gravitated toward “In Tandem” because it was the most honest word for how they partner with founders. Funny side effect on our end: the word has quietly taken over our internal language. We use “in tandem” almost every day now to describe how we work with each other and clients. Turns out a name that good doesn’t stay inside the file it was made for!

From there the work expanded into a full system. A complete brand strategy and guidelines document anchored in the values that have always run the business: moving in sync, embedded, shared accountability, partnership, candor. A colour palette drawn from natural materials, built to feel calm and grounded rather than corporate or transactional.

The mark itself does two jobs at once. At first glance, the curves read as two shapes moving together, our literal take on “in tandem.” Look a little longer and the same shape forms a pair of ram horns, a quiet nod to Brandon’s last name and to the brand that came before. The past didn’t get erased, it got carried forward.

The system extended into a rollout package built for daily use: business cards, email signatures, social templates, presentation files, Canva assets the team can run with on their own, and a new Squarespace website that walks visitors through the strategy, offers, and a clear point of view on why the traditional recruiting model falls short.

The whole brand stands on a single line: “Recruiting for founders who can’t afford to get it wrong.”

Congratulations Brandon, Sarah, and the entire team. We’re so proud to have built this one with you and can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings!
