An Ottawa Catholic School Board teacher has been charged in connection with alleged sexual offences involving a student.

Ottawa police say the allegations date back to 2021 and 2022. Nancy Lescarbeau, 52, of Ottawa, is facing multiple charges, including sexual assault, sexual interference, forcible confinement and assault. ‼️

The OCSB said the teacher was immediately removed from the classroom after the board was informed of the charges. Police have not identified the school where she worked.

Investigators say they are concerned there may be other student victims.

Ottawa police are warning residents about a sharp increase in thefts from vehicles across the city.

Between July 1 and Sept. 30, police received 1,140 reports of thefts from vehicles, up 35 per cent from the same period last year.

Police say many incidents involve unlocked vehicles, with wallets, cash, credit cards, sunglasses and tools among the items being stolen. Some stolen garage door openers have also been used to access homes.

Police are reminding drivers to lock their vehicles, remove valuables and avoid leaving garage door openers inside. ‼️

OLG says a ticket sold in the region is splitting a $1 million Lotto Max prize with another winning ticket sold in Quebec.

The big jackpot went unclaimed Tuesday night, meaning Friday’s Lotto Max draw is now climbing to an estimated $80 million — plus 14 Maxmillions and 80 Maxplus prizes up for grabs.

Ottawa is getting another direct flight option ✈️

Porter Airlines is launching nonstop service between Ottawa and London, Ont. starting April 12, 2027.

The new route will operate up to 20 times a week at peak frequency, giving travellers a new option for getting between the two Ontario cities without having to connect elsewhere.

The Ottawa–London route is part of Porter’s larger expansion at London International Airport, with new nonstop service to several Canadian cities planned for 2027.

Ottawa’s housing market saw a small bump in sales last month, but overall, 2026 is still tracking behind last year. 🏠

So far this year, 10,288 homes have sold in Ottawa down 6.9% from the same period last year.

Meanwhile, new listings jumped 38.1% from August, with 2,927 properties hitting the market in September.

And prices? The average residential sale price was $685,640, down 1% year-over-year.

Police are searching for an Ottawa woman wanted in connection with a first-degree murder investigation.

The OPP says 53-year-old Cathy Percey is wanted in connection with the death of 63-year-old Clarence-Rockland man Robert Prevost, whose body was found in the Ottawa River in May 2025.

Five people have already been arrested in connection with the case, with three facing first-degree murder charges, one facing a second-degree murder charge and another facing obstruction-related charges.

Police say Percey is known to frequent Ottawa, Rockland and Gatineau.

May Robert rest in Peace.

Ottawa has reported 10 human cases of West Nile virus so far this year 🦟

Ottawa Public Health says the cases were confirmed as of October 1, with 24 mosquito pools also testing positive for the virus. There have been 74 confirmed cases across Ontario so far this year.

With mosquito season continuing until the first hard frost, health officials are reminding residents to take precautions, including using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants around dusk and dawn, and getting rid of standing water around their homes.

Older adults and people with weakened immune systems are at greater risk of severe illness, but anyone can become infected.

🎃 Ottawa farmers are warning pumpkin shoppers to get theirs early this year.

A rainy summer has damaged pumpkin crops across the region, with Saunders Farm reporting about 700 millimetres of rain this summer more than twice the average.

One North Gower farm says it is down 30 to 45 per cent on its pumpkin crop, raising concerns that supplies could run low before Halloween.

Farmers are encouraging people planning to carve a Jack-o’-lantern to pick up their pumpkins sooner rather than later. Uncarved pumpkins should last through Halloween, but once carved, they typically have about a week before they begin to rot! 👻

Ottawa spent the summer by the water! ☀️🌊

Nearly 900,000 people visited NCC waterfront attractions between May 8 and September 20, with spots across Ottawa and Gatineau drawing big crowds all summer long.

Some of the most popular spots included Kiweki Point with 290,600 visits, Westboro Beach with 255,500, and the River House with 170,500. 🏖️

And with new waterfront spots opening at the East Wharf near Major’s Hill Park and the Canadian Museum of History, there were even more places to cool off and enjoy the river this summer. 💦☀️
