Burger King went on the Oscar’s and said: We weren’t good enough.
Old restaurants, slow service, simple mistakes. Read out loud by the actual president of the company, name badge on, with real customer complaints behind him.
Then they fired the king. Not retired, not reimagined but Fired. To make room for the customer.
But here’s the part everyone’s missing. The ad came last. Years of remodels came first. The president giving out his personal phone number to take unfiltered feedback came first z changing the whopper based on what people said came first. By the time this aired, every claim in it was already true, which is exactly why it doesn’t feel like an ad.
Most businesses run in reverse. They buy the promise before they build the thing, and then their own operations turn the we into a lie.
Your brand isn’t what you say about yourself. It’s what your customers say when you’re not in the room.
