We're still upgrading iMac hard drives from 2014-2019, and batteries in older laptops.

Here are 5 good reasons why you should consider upgrading your Mac computer instead of replacing it.

Improved Performance: A targeted upgrade—like swapping to an SSD or increasing memory—can dramatically boost speed and responsiveness, making your Mac feel like new.

Cost-Effective: Upgrading components like RAM or storage is usually much cheaper than buying a new Mac, especially if your current machine still runs well overall.

Environmental Impact: Extending the life of your Mac reduces electronic waste and the environmental footprint of manufacturing and shipping a new device.

Preserves Familiar Setup: Upgrading lets you keep your current apps, settings, and workflows intact without needing to migrate everything or adjust to new hardware quirks.

Avoid Compatibility Headaches: Older Macs may support legacy ports or software that newer models no longer do, so upgrading helps you keep using what already works for you.

Keep that older iMac or MacBook Air cruising on the information superhighway with a hardware and software upgrade. Speed up your iMac with a Solid State Drive. Increase the capacity of your MacBook Air with a replacement SSD. Modernize your software with a MacOS upgrade. Why buy new when you can improve your own computer's performance, for less? Send an inquiry with your model number to [email protected] to see what's available for you.

Thinking about a VPN?

A VPN app is like a condom for your internet traffic—sometimes essential, sometimes overkill.

Here’s the breakdown:

When a VPN is necessary

You use public Wi-Fi a lot (coffee shops, airports, hotels).
You want to bypass geo-blocks (e.g., streaming a show that’s only available in another country).
You live somewhere with censorship or government surveillance.
You’re sending sensitive info and don’t fully trust the network.

When it’s probably not worth the hassle

You’re at home on your own secured network and not trying to hide your activity.
You’re not concerned about streaming restrictions or geo-location.
Your main worry is malware or hackers—that’s better handled with good device security, strong passwords, updates, and common sense.

Caveats

VPNs don’t make you invisible; your ISP can’t see the sites you visit, but the VPN provider can.
Some VPNs slow down your connection, and the “free” ones often are the product (selling your data).
So: If you’re mostly home-based, cautious online, and not trying to stream Netflix Japan—no, you don’t really need one. If you’re on the road, nosing around sketchy Wi-Fi, or dodging prying eyes—yes, get a solid, reputable paid VPN.

We just had a situation where an Apple ID password reset is going to take another 5 days, after verifying the trusted email, the trusted phone number, and one of the other Apple devices in the home. This is likely in response to one of the recent password hacks that's affected billions of users.

On one hand, it's a huge hassle, and gives these companies far too much control over our technology and work lives. On the other hand, we'd sure be mad if someone nefarious managed to take control of our iCloud accounts and the data we keep therein. Best solution? Keep control of your important passwords, and practice good password management. We can teach you how.
