Haleem Queen is helping our Muslim Women of Durham Region member Uzma Khan with her Turkiye Cycling Challenge to raise funds for Emergency Aid in Palestine. Her goal is to raise $1000 InshaAllah. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Islamic Relief Canada. Please support the cause and enjoy some delicious, home made haleem!

3) You can also directly donate to Islamic Relief on her campaign page for donations above $25 if you wish a tax receipt. http://islamicrelief.ca/uzmasturkiyechallenge Please note that donations are zakat eligible. Please make sure you forward the donation confirmation email from Islamic relief to Uzma at [email protected].

Only orders with Etransfer or donation to campaign page prior to order deadline Wednesday August 14th will be confirmed.

This past Sunday, I had the opportunity to give back and do something good for the community through an initiative organized by the Canadian Council of Muslim Women (CCMW). So many groups have been negatively affected by COVID-19, and one worth mentioning is international students. Being so far from their families back home and being unable to congregate with other students makes them a particularly isolated group. The isolation hits even harder during Ramadan, a month of spending time with family, fasting, and praying with loved ones.

Alhumdulillah, I was able to make haleem for 70 of UOIT’s international students so that, perhaps, they would feel like a little piece of home was with them. These students are stuck on campus due to the pandemic and some of them don’t have enough money to buy the necessities. Most of them are having trouble securing jobs that international students often rely on to survive in Canada.

I hope this small act of kindness, made them feel comforted during this holy month. I would like to thank CCMW for the opportunity and Mumtaz Patel who leads our volunteer group. Let’s continue to give back this Ramadan! – Haleem Queen

I am deeply honoured to receive this letter to be nominated. It is really humbling to receive this for my CCMW campaign to raise money for orphans. I would like thank Kubra Mir (CCMW) she has been an enduring inspiration to me. I would also like to thank my sister Khadija and my friend Salma Nakhuda for their support during this campaign.
