Yes, we still design and build websites! (Here's a sneak peek of a new website we just launched for Versity.)

There are four main reasons that small businesses, entrepreneurs, and non-profits ask us to redesign their websites:

1️⃣ Outdated or Unprofessional Design
The design looks dated, the company has evolved but the site hasn’t kept up, or the original site was DIY or student-built — it served its purpose early on but now feels amateurish.

2️⃣ Technical or Functional Problems
The website crashes, has security vulnerabilities, or is difficult to update because the backend is outdated.

3️⃣ Branding and Messaging Misalignment
The business has rebranded and requires a fresh site, or it has shifted focus over the years and the website no longer aligns with the new vision.

4️⃣ Marketing and Growth Needs
The old site doesn’t generate enough leads or sales, new tools need to be integrated, or the business needs to measure results more effectively.

If you’ve been thinking about updating or redesigning your website, let’s chat.

A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to facilitate a Working Genius session at a business retreat in Victoria.

It was a joy to co-facilitate the workshop with Dan Schmidt, whose deep experience growing one business from 30 to 200 people over 20 years perfectly complemented my (Tim's) broader experience working with over 100 different businesses and organizations.

Thank you to Tality Wellness for the invitation! The energy at the retreat was incredible, with franchise owners from across BC and Alberta coming together to learn how to launch and grow their franchises. Everyone was eager to learn, furiously taking notes and asking sharp, insightful questions.

One participant shared:
"This assessment explains why I feel so guilty doing Galvanizing work, even though I'm good at it. I have skill in this area, but it's a Working Frustration for me."

Keep an eye out for a Tality Wellness opening in your city soon. They offer social wellness through hot sauna and ice baths.

Recently one of my coaching clients shared their goal of increasing revenue by 20% this year. Increasing revenue is a common goal for the entrepreneurs I work with.

My first question to them is always the same – what’s your plan?

Many times there isn’t a plan, just a goal. And French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry wrote, "a goal without a plan is just a wish." So my job as their coach is to help them turn their wish into a goal, by helping them create a plan. And once there is a plan, then they can take action.

In this video, I share 5 ways you can increase revenue in your business.

Our team recently launched a new logo and brand for one of our clients, John Knox Christian School, and I'm really proud of the work that we did.

Handling the rebranding for a 70-year old organization was a very interesting challenge. This was an 18-month journey that started with getting buy-in from the leadership. Next we facilitated focus groups with staff, parents, student leaders, and board members, asking them what the school meant to them. From their responses, we developed the new logo, fonts, and colours. Then followed many rounds of feedback, revisions, more feedback, and more revisions.

Then we applied the new branding to the website, stationary, uniforms, and social media. With so many stakeholders in the organization, we decided to put together a video explaining the new logo and the meaning behind it.

A big thanks to everyone on our team that helped with this project:
Arusha Vegt - for setting the vision, galvanizing, and coordinating all the details involved in this project
Sarah Lis Smith - branding
Tyler Tsuyuki - website design and development
Jake Beunk - videography
Michael Lee - video animation

My wife (Olive Chan Art) had a video go viral last week (13 million views on Instagram, Facebook, and Tiktok). As a business coach and a numbers guy, I really enjoyed analyzing the statistics.

For those that don't want to watch the video, here's a summary of my analysis:
The Viral Video Story – Olive completed a challenging puzzle and posted a video of the final piece on Instagram. It quickly gained traction, reaching 20,000 views overnight and eventually going viral across multiple platforms.

Viral Growth & Stats – The video reached 13 million views in a week (9M on Instagram, 2.9M on TikTok, 1.2M on Facebook). YouTube didn’t take off due to a lack of initial audience engagement. TikTok’s algorithm gives all videos a chance, while YouTube prioritizes long-term searchability.

Audience Engagement & Viewing Trends – Watch time varied across platforms (Facebook: 21s, Instagram: 19s, TikTok: 15s), reflecting different user demographics. TikTok generally favors younger audiences, while Facebook leans older.

Business Impact & New Followers – The video didn’t lead to art sales but did boost Olive’s following: +1015 on Instagram, +654 on Facebook, +366 on TikTok. This visibility may convert to future customers over time.

Unexpected Fun & Community Reactions – The experience was exciting for the family, and the comment section was highly entertaining, with reactions ranging from admiration to frustration at the puzzle’s difficulty.

I tell my daughter that showing her work on math assignments would give her higher grades. The same is true for businesses. Entrepreneurs can add more value (and get more credit) from their customers if they would show their work.

"I feel less guilty about about how I do my work, and how I assign work to others."
"Now I understand why our team works so well together."
"Thanks for the session today, it was wonderful and very timely for us."

I ended my Working Genius workshop with the Flowmarq Creative team by asking what their takeaways were, and was delighted to hear the learnings that the participants shared.

Thanks Brian for the invitation to facilitate a team building session with your business, and for hosting it in your beautiful office.

If anyone needs a design agency, I highly recommend Flowmarq. Their team is full of not only creative designers, but strong implementers that get work done quickly and at a high level. From seeing their team map, I can see why their business has thrived and grown over the past 17 years.

Tim's 10% Rule for Meeting Preparation
To ensure effective meetings, the facilitator should allocate 10% of the combined time investment of all participants to prepare for the meeting.

Episode 6 of the podcast is all about meetings: why people hate them, how the Working Genius can make meetings better, 4 types of meetings, and how to end meetings well.

Upstream work is less visible, because it's about ideas, strategy, and decision-making. This work includes Wonder, Invention, and Discernment.

Downstream work is more visible and concrete, because it's about gathering a team, implementation, and ex*****on. This work includes Galvanizing, Enablement, and Tenacity.

Learn more about how to use the Working Genius to help teams be more productive and joyful in episode 5.
