Tourism Saskatchewan Celebrates Youth Innovation Through Tourism Bootcamp

Tourism Saskatchewan partnered with the Regina Open Door Society to deliver the Young Leader Academy Tourism Bootcamp, an eight-week program introducing youth to tourism careers through hands-on learning and real-world experiences.

Students explored tourism career pathways using Tourism Saskatchewan’s Teacher Explorer’s Club resources, participated in classroom activities and took part in a tourism experience at the RCMP Heritage Centre. Along the way, they developed skills in hospitality, storytelling, teamwork and event planning.

The program concluded on May 22 with Presentation Day, where students showcased original tourism concepts inspired by Saskatchewan businesses and destinations. The event featured student presentations, industry feedback and recognition of participants’ creativity and hard work. Tourism Saskatchewan CEO Jonathan Potts joined the presentations, offering encouragement and engaging with students as they shared their ideas.

The Tourism Bootcamp demonstrated the value of experiential learning by helping students build confidence, apply their ideas and connect with industry professionals while exploring future opportunities in Saskatchewan’s tourism sector.

Digital metrics have long shaped how tourism organizations measure success. But as AI-driven search, generative discovery and digital assistants continue to evolve, the way travellers discover destinations is changing faster than many analytics platforms can track.

This latest AI Snapshot with Peter Pilarski explores why traditional metrics like impressions, reach and website traffic are becoming less reliable indicators on their own and why digital authority, visibility and qualified visitor intent are becoming increasingly important for tourism organizations.

As traveller behaviour shifts toward AI-generated search, voice search and conversational discovery tools, organizations may need to rethink how they measure digital performance and long-term brand visibility.
