Over the entire month of June, the entire world celebrates pride month. Richard Taylor once defined pride as the justified love of oneself. Pride is inspired by the Stonewall Riots of 1969, signified by the police raid of Stonewall Inn and the subsequent riot against police harassment and social discrimination. It has been a long and rocky ride ever since. but as LGBTQ+ people gain more acceptance across the world, we recognized and announced June as a month of celebrating people of all backgrounds, regardless of their birth identity.
St. John's and our LGBTQ+ scene are just as vibrant and accepting as the fresh Atlantic wind that we breathe each day.
We look back at 2024 with yet another year where the world becomes more tolerant to accept more colorful identities. Happy Pride Month!
