CM Maps and Socials, Strathmore, AB (2026)

Take a moment to reflect on this question: do you know how your business looks online? My goal is to help your business shine bright on all online mapping (e.g. Google Maps) and social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, Twitter, etc.). I graduated from the University of Calgary in 2018 with a combined degree of BA in Geography and BA in Communication + Media Studies. I also have a

dditional education in GIS and Emergency Management. As an active user of various social media platforms (remember Vine?) since the late 2000s, I've had the idea to help businesses improve their online presence for several years. It wasn't until I went on my first trip to Las Vegas in late 2019 and the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 that my idea solidified. It broke my heart to hear of so many small businesses closing their doors through that time period. I started to wonder why some businesses continued through, even increasing their customers, while others closed. One common factor I began to notice was how businesses looked online. Those that had a unified, active, and appealing online presence tended to be more successful. Is the business visually appealing and easily identified through consistent branding by customers both online and in person? Would a customer be able to find their physical store or restaurant location with ease? Could the business be contacted easily through a website or social media platform? How did customers of a business share their experience with that business online? These were the types of questions I began to explore. Hi everyone,

CM Maps and Socials is very proud to announce that we will be a vendor at the first ever Lead by Example Pow Wow happening March 18 & 19 in Strathmore, Alberta. 🪶

This inaugural event was founded in memory of Kristian Kakato’si Ayoungman. A talented, young, Indigenous champion dancer and hockey player whose life was tragically taken when he was murdered
in March 2019. Working with both Siksika Nation Administration and Town of Strathmore, his mother, Melodie Ayoungman-Hunt, worked to create this event and make it accessible for all community members.

As a Strathmore-based Indigenous and LGBTQ+ owned sole-proprietorship, CM Maps and Socials recognizes the value and opportunity presented by this event and is honored to be a part of it. "Dear Internet,

January is the start of a new year. This month brings new beginnings, new opportunities, and a time for reflection. This month also marks the official launch of my small business - CM Maps and Socials.

What started as an idea floating in my brain for the past 3 years is finally coming to life. I am excited, nervous, and optimistic.

I cannot launch this endeavor without first saying thank you. Thank you to my family, partner, friends, and fellow small business owners who have been so generous with their time and energy while beginning this journey. It took 4 months of work, after hours of my full-time role, to get to where we are today.

Though my original intention with this business is to have it be my side gig, I'm driven to grow it in the future.

At this point, my venture is entirely self-funded. With that - I intend to keep my service rates affordable.

Your support of sharing my website/contact info/this letter with any small business owners you know who want help auditing and improving their business's online presence focusing on Google Maps and Social Media platforms would mean the world.
