She worked as an actor and voiceover artist in New York for 7 years, before relocating to Toronto in 2005. She has also developed and brought Electric Moon’s arts education programs into numerous school boards and camps across Ontario. In March 2020, she began Electric Moon's successful CyberStage Virtual Theatre Classes so kids could still enjoy the magic of theatre during Covid-19. Carrie has hands on in experience in all areas of Carrie Libling Consulting. She has experienced, worked on and been there herself over her long career in small business and arts education and can give genuine, caring and understanding guidance to any small business or independent artist. She began her theatre education career over 20 years ago, as the Music and Drama Director for 4 summers at Double “H” Hole in the Woods Ranch, a Paul Newman camp for children with critical illnesses – producing, directing, writing, music directing and choreographing the weekly talent show. While in New York, she continued to combine her passion for theatre and teaching while working for Camp Broadway, creating and instructing workshops for Broadway shows. After appearing in several original children’s musicals at Vital Theatre Company in New York City, Carrie became their Director of Family Programming, where she spent 5 years commissioning, producing and directing original musicals for children. In 2009, following the success of Pinkalicious, The Musical Off-Broadway, Carrie produced the first Canadian Production of the show at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts – it’s originally planned 6-week run lasting over 6 sold-out months. From 2012 to 2017 Carrie worked as the Education Coordinator at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts overseeing, programming and implementing school performances and theatre workshops, afterschool theatre programs and summer camps, guest artist in the classroom programs and lunch-time in school theatre programs.

I am so grateful to for their encouragement from the second I told them I was going to begin arts consulting. From my roles at The Richmond Hill Centre to Electric Moon to The Rose, we have worked together in many different capacities over the years, but the constant has always been their endless support.

What a weekend this was with such an incredible and passionate group of presenters. Thank you for this lovely review and I can’t wait for more opportunities to work together.

Oh wow, where have the last few weeks gone?! I have not been consistent with my posting. But you know what? It’s because business has been really good and I am busier than I ever imagined this soon into starting consulting.

Turns out when you spend your days making sure your clients have incredible marketing, you have no time for your own! My schedule has been jam packed with some pretty amazing clients working on email campaign strategy and ex*****on, website reorganization and content updates, client service strategy and new program implementation, developing digital and social media campaigns and business strategy meet ups over breakfast.

So much on the go, but thought it was a good chance to check in and say hi! Learn more about who I’ve been working with at link in bio and reach out for your free initial consultation whenever you’re ready!

Shout out to Sisters and Co Restaurant for the above breakfast and perfect client meeting spot.

If you’ve led or worked in an arts organization, you know every day is a marathon. Often small teams, large workload and never enough hours.

So what happens when someone suddenly leaves? Or your season has so many shows and no one to book ads? Or your education team is juggling both arts education shows and afterschool programs and are just overwhelmed? Or everyone is relying on the marketing team for everything and they have no more capacity? You see where I’m headed…

That’s where an arts consultant comes in.

Senior level expertise, no full time salary and no long term commitment. Just the right support at the right time for exactly what you need. Not sure what you need yet? That’s ok because I can help you figure that out whenever you’re ready at https://carrieliblingconsulting.com/arts-organizations

What’s the biggest challenge your organization is facing right now?

In 2017 I started Electric Moon Theatre Company. Leaving my education coordinator role Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts was a risk, but I had amazing colleagues who encouraged my next step. We grew fast touring TYA shows including Big Nate the Musical, Geronimo Stilton Mouse in Space and Junie B. Jones the Musical. Our in-school programs were booming from lunch time musical theatre classes to curriculum based in-school theatre programs. Junie was set for a huge 2020-2021 Ontario tour… our biggest one yet.

Then COVID hit.

We pivoted immediately with a web series for young audiences and virtual theatre classes, but everyday felt like a waiting game. Schools had no timeline for letting external providers back in and theatres were unsure if their live seasons would happen. We were in limbo and all decisions were way beyond my control.

Eventually it was hard to wait much longer. My bank account was dwindling, insurance to start up again was too much and the cost to tour had risen. Plus what if I spent the money just to end up with another shut down or teacher strike? In January 2022 I made the difficult decision to close.

Two months later I was at The Rose Theatre. In my interview they asked me why I closed Electric Moon. Of all the questions I expected, this wasn’t one of them, but I understood why. I think knowing how and when to make the hard calls says a lot about a leader.

What’s the toughest business decision you’ve ever had to make? Tell us in the comments below.

And no, we’re not talking about the two from the Broadway musical (although, fellow musical theatre fans, you know what I’m talking about!). Today we’re here to finally answer this with everyone’s favourite game show…
