To recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day, I am thrilled to have a guest blog from a very special person/artist/activist, .

We met during Season 3 of Canada’s Drag Race and I could tell right away they were intelligent, talented and funny as hell. Sidebar: I highly recommend you give them a follow on Instagram and TikTok.

Chelazon is a two-Spirit Dene First Nations Multidisciplinary Artist. Through Drag, stand-up comedy, and social media content creation, Chelazon uses their influence to educate and entertain audiences worldwide.

In our latest blog (at link in bio) Chelazon speaks about their experience being a Two-Spirit person, the history and what it means in modern day.

PR Tips for Inclusivity
 
Your company’s inclusivity practices show your audience what your brand values are and what you believe in. Not only can this attract more clients, it’s also THE RIGHT THING TO DO (yes, I put that in all caps).
 
Swipe or read on to learn three simple, yet significant and effective tips you can incorporate into your business to demonstrate your commitment to inclusivity.
 
1. SHARE PRONOUNS
Lead by example and share your pronouns and encourage your employees to do the same, because you can’t assume someone’s gender. By having everyone share these, it normalizes the practice and doesn’t make anyone feel like they are out of place for sharing theirs.

2. DELIVER LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Before meetings and gatherings, deliver land acknowledgements. It’s important to recognize the original Indigenous caretakers of the land in which your company sits on. Check out www.native-land.ca if you need a place to start learning.

3. USE YOUR VOICE
Donations are always welcome, but if you don’t have funds, use your voice. Make sure that you’re posting and sharing resources on your various platforms. Get your colleagues involved by asking them which causes are important to them and highlight these throughout the year.

The ICON digital media network (digital, magazine, podcast) provides a resource for business owners who want to cultivate and foster growth in all areas of their life. ICON Refined shines a spotlight on stories from business and wellness, to culture, health and beyond.
 
Discovering this publication happened to be such an incredible find and I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with them a few times already. I guess you could say they’re, ah hem, very refined.

Are you a podcaster looking to make your mark?

Producing great content is only one part of the equation. Building an audience is the other crucial element needed for success, and when it comes to upping the PR game as a podcaster, well, we’ve got you covered. 

Podcasts and web series have experienced rapid growth. While the rise of the medium has a lot of potential fans, it has also led to a lot of competition, but that’s where PR can give you an edge.

1️⃣ Hone your niche. There are two important factors to consider when determining your focus and your ideal audience. First, what is your expertise; and second, what is your end goal? Double down on what is resonating most and don’t be afraid to cut the content that isn’t performing as well. 
 
2️⃣ Create teaser videos for upcoming episodes that can be shared on social media to build excitement. This can include snippets from the episode as well as behind-the-scenes content like bloopers.

3️⃣ Invite special guests. Featuring relevant industry experts, influencers, or celebrities as guests on your podcast or web series adds credibility. Plus, it’s great cross-promotion when they share the episode with their followers.

4️⃣ Be a guest yourself. Appearing on other series can introduce you and your channel to a whole new audience. You can find other podcasters with complimentary content and offer to have them on your podcast if they will return the favour. 
 
5️⃣ Gain visibility at events. Being seen is an important part of promotion. Participate in events relevant to your niche. It will keep you up to date on the latest industry news to leverage in upcoming content.

6️⃣ Build your media presence. Do not forget about media relations in your PR plans. Pitch yourself as a columnist or expert commentator to a local newspaper, radio station or TV news program, keeping your brand top of mind among the general public.

7️⃣ Engage with your audience. The easiest way to maintain your current audience is by building a relationship and loyalty through engagement and response.

Do You Want to Level Up Your Writing With AI?
 
Over the past couple of years, the landscape of writing has evolved with the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. These innovative tools offer writers unprecedented assistance in crafting clearer, more compelling content. Whether you’re a small business or a professional communicator, harnessing the power of AI can significantly elevate your writing prowess.

Start with a clear idea. You should know what you want AI to help with before you start. Idea generation, editing or content creation.  
 
Choose the right AI tool. Right now, there are a lot of AI tools that support writing, and that number is only going to grow. Learn what the various tools do and choose the right one for the task.
 
Be detailed, but concise. The more detail you provide in the prompt, the better. But don’t get too wordy - i.e. if you can say it in 3 words don’t use 10. AI is creating content based on your instructions, so be specific to get the best results.
 
Use it to edit. If you already have a draft and it feels like it needs a little something extra to be perfect, AI can help. Use prompts to make it less wordy, change the tone, check grammar and spelling, or improve sentence flow.
 
Have fun with it. Consider using AI to add a playful tone or some pop culture references.
 
Experiment. Like any skill, using AI to improve your writing takes a bit of practice. Explore how different prompts change the generated content to find what works best for you. 
 
Review. Review. Review. Make sure you always review the resulting content. AI can be really helpful, but it doesn’t always get it right. It’s important to make sure the information, messaging and tone are accurate and align with your intentions.
