I was about to buy tickets last week.

Not just for me, as a gift for a friend, and I was ready to share it with my entrepreneur network.

The overview stopped me first: "An evening of keynotes and real conversation about identity, ambition, and what it means to truly show up for yourself."

I thought, this is for me.

Then I looked at the stage....

Five speakers. Same representation across every single one. No women of colour. No diversity of any kind.

And I put my wallet away.

I'm not writing this as an angry woman.

I'm writing this as a marketer who understands what homogenous stages actually cost you. In ticket sales, in trust, in the message you send about who this space is really for.

When your stage doesn't reflect the room you claim to want, you're not just missing representation. You're leaving money on the table.

And more importantly, you're telling an entire group of ambitious women, women with money to spend and networks to mobilize, that they're not who you had in mind.

Money has no colour. Ambition has no colour. But stages? Stages send a message.

To the organizers who are listening: this is fixable. And it's worth fixing.

🗓️ Eight years ago this month I was making my farewell speech after 26 years.

I was working full time at a distribution center. What nobody in that room knew was how I got there.

For months before that day:

✓ I was building my business on the side.

✓ I had a business coach in my corner.

✓ I was posting content and showing up as an expert even though nothing about my day job reflected that.

✓ I was networking on my days off.

🚘 And I was taking client calls from Tim Hortons parking lots on my way home from work.

💥 That is what LinkedIn made possible.

Not because I went viral. Not because I had a massive following. Because I built a presence that reflected where I was going, not where I was.

People started finding me. Asking questions. Booking calls.

My LinkedIn profile was doing the work before I was ready to go full time.

That is still what I believe. Eight years later.

🇨🇦 This morning, I played tourist in my own city.

I signed up for a public art walking tour with Shaun V. through , and despite being a lifelong Torontonian, I discovered hidden gems I had walked past countless times without truly seeing.

🖌️ What stood out most wasn't just the art. It was the stories behind it. The Indigenous connections woven throughout the city, the artists who embedded pieces of their lives into their work, and the history hiding in plain sight.

The weather couldn't have been better. Sunshine, comfortable temperatures, and the perfect excuse to spend a few hours exploring downtown on foot.

If you're looking for something different to do, I highly recommend Shaun's tour. Bring your curiosity, your camera, and comfortable shoes. Your feet will thank you later.
