Happy New Year 🍾

I (Caitlin) wanted to jump on here quick because...I have been super quiet on here. As usual, our time is spent on our client's account and we only get active on here when we have time...which is clearly never.

But there is another reason why we've been quiet.
WE ARE RE-BRANDING!!!! This rebrand is important because things are changing with Caitlin Melvin Digital Marketing.

Initially, this was a freelance gig. And things have evolved and "I" has become "we'. This freelance gig has adapted to our growing clientele to push us to become a boutique agency. We have new people on board helping with content creation and branding and this popsicle stand is more than Caitlin Melvin now...so we are going to remove Caitlin...just a little bit, so we can continue growing.

So bear with us for a little while longer. Posts will not be consistent - but just know we are still here...but working in the background while still servicing our awesome clients.

When you have your branding established, love it...but just need it freshened up.

A mini brand refresh is a great way to re-establish yourself and make things pop.

Dave Dubbin and Associates is one of our legacy clients..i.e. they've been with us for a while. Dave loved his logo, but wanted some brand guidelines set in place including complimentary branding colours and fonts. Love how this turned out - it's totally his style and a great reflection of his personality and his team.


I can't tell you enough how important it is to set your brand guidelines. Not doing this can make things look a little all over the place. Using random fonts, random colours, etc....it's not a good look.

I've been working in digital marketing since 2010. When I first started, digital marketing was fairly new, and social media marketing was undetermined. At the time, I found an interest in social media as a marketing tool for brands. I thought it was cool that people could touch base with their favourite brands, interact with them, see their photos, and finally hear their true voice so they could relate to them. In my opinion, that's pretty powerful.

I had a conversation with the VP of a company I was working for when digital marketing was still fresh, and I told him that social media was going to take off and I knew it would be big. His exact words:
"No, it's not. Social media is already dead. It's a waste of time."
I still remember how angry I was that he was challenging my opinion. How someone who was trying to establish a mark on this industry ignore such a powerful marketing tool.

Working in social media has been my highest paid opportunity to date. I have helped businesses in many different industries establish their presence, connect with people, and grow their businesses.

Social media is imperative. It's your gateway to your clients and prospective clients. Although it's not effortless, easy, and honestly, it's super time consuming - your customers/clients & prospective clients can easily communicate with you and get a better sense of who you are so they can decide if you are a good fit for them.

If you're not active, you're missing an opportunity.

It's no secret that marketing comes with expenses.

You know the saying, "You have to spend money to make money?"
I believe that's true. But the money has to be effectively spent.

Instagram has a few problems (or maybe you think it has a lot of problems) but one is the issue with LINKS! You get one clickable link that sits in your bio, unless you use the link button in your stories - which disappears after 24 hours.

The solution is these special, and affordable mini landing pages called Link in bio tools. Liinks.co, Linktree, Later, etc. With the paid options you can create a branded landing page with titles, images and videos that are perfect for allowing your audience to EASILY find the CTA they need most without having to search for it - which, quite honestly, they probably wouldn't do.

The free versions look blah. They are not branded and look totally unprofessional in my personal opinion. So you should be willing to invest in the paid versions so it's a strong reflection of your brand. It's basically a mini-website - so really, you don't want to just have a few plain blocks in black or white (unless that's your brand colours).

But it's like night and day between the paid and free versions.

Whichever one you choose is totally based on a personal preference and what "look" you like better. But if you own a business, you very likely have multiple CTA's you want people to follow. You also want to give them what you are looking for.

1. SWIPE UP IN STORIES FOR EVERYONE
It's actually a button now, but yes, you get a swipe up, and you get a swipe up, and you get a swipe up! You no longer need 10k + followers to have the link feature in your stories.
2. Remove an image from your carousel post without having to delete the whole thing (This is a big deal for me). This one hasn't rolled out to Androids yet. womp womp.
3. Text to speech for reels! Previously this feature was only available on TikTok. Instagram stepped up!
4. Add Yours Sticker - did you see the "Share a photo of you pet and we will plant a tree" trend? It's a fun new feature. Sometimes it takes off, sometimes it doesn't. But it's fun to try!

Want to increase engagement on Instagram?
Start creating reels and use these 3 simple tips to increase views and engagement.

1. You might want to use a specific sound or piece of music for your reel, but if you want it to perform well - check to see how many times that particular sound has been used. You're looking for THOUSANDS. The more the better.
2. Reels that are SHORTER DO PERFORM BETTER. Keep them short and sweet. But it's okay if you want to throw in a few longer ones here and there.
3. Wait, what did that say? Wait, how did they do that transition? I'm going to need to watch again. Put yourself in your viewers shoes...why would they need to watch back again? Quick text, and cool transitions usually make people watch again. Increase those views, baby!!!

Also, know that reels are time consuming, require planning and thought and not every single reel is going to perform amazing. If you reel tanks DO NOT DELETE.
I REPEAT: DO NOT DELETE.

I've seen reels spike in performance 1-2 weeks AFTER the initial post. And also, those 400 views counted for something, so leave it there. You can't expect every single reel and post to shine.

Welcome to our new content producer and writer ❤

Blair brings extensive editorial and social media experience, which I know is going to be a perfect fit for all our clients. She will be working out of Toronto.

Caitlin Melvin Digital Marketing is GROWING, and producing QUALITY content is kind of our thing. You might not hear from Blair, but she will be working behind the scenes making sweet 💫 content magic happen.

🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

Yikes. Is social media stressing you? Yes, social media is pretty much imperative for ANY business. If you don't have it, that's one less opportunity of increasing awareness, sales, and just being there for your customers/clients and prospective business. Social media is basically the new website.

But, uh, it's kind of hard. There's a lot to keep up with. If you're unsure about "strategy" here are 5 EASY posts that can apply to ANY business and can be used 2-4 times a month...and sometimes more (*ahem* lifestyle content *ahem*).
