New episode of Don't Just Survive, Thrive Online!
In this episode, Becky Parmiter and Jeremy Finklestein talk to Bal Sieber from Modern Nerd. Bal is a web & mobile product designer, digital nomad, and remote work advocate. He is a modern minimalist traveling and working as a Manager & User Experience Designer for a software company, Theorem.
This is an interesting conversation. As we talked to Bal, we realized his lifestyle was very intriguing and he had a lot of life lessons to share as a digital nomad. He is also a very credible and experienced designer and shared with us some great insights into having a strong online presence. The podcast can therefore be broken out into two parts.
In part one, we go into how Bal became a digital nomad and why he continues to live as one. He talks about how his dissatisfaction with his work, plus his desire to be location independent, has led him on this journey.
He really gives us a good understanding of why he has chosen to live this way and how it has changed his life for the better. Bal explains to us his ideal work, life balance, and how thinking about his life first and how his work would fit into that life, was the key to bridging the two together.
Currently, Bal is located in Tulum, Mexico, he talks about the importance of finding a good hub of digital nomads and how the holistic culture of Tulum has kept him staying there. He describes what his workday looks like, his daily habits and how he needed to experiment with everything in his day to find the right schedule that worked for him.
In the second part of the podcast, we get Bal's opinion about web design and the power of a website. He shares with us his theories on what makes a good website, how your website can really help you build a good reputation and how he was able to get hired by clients without meeting them, just from his website, social media, and overall online presence.
Bal lives a very interesting, fulfilling life and credits it to taking chances, risks, and living outside his comfort zone.
