Back in July, I was part of a panel with Shanee Ben-Zur, CMO at Crunchbase, at Superside’s Ad Designpalooza. As part of our panel discussion hosted by Superside’s VP Marketing, Amrita Mathur, we were asked a few questions centred around data and advertising design, which I’ve answered below.

If you are keen to understand when and when not to test your creatives, how to prove incremental value, secure buy-in from leadership, and which tools are recommended for analytics, then this article is for you.

We've outgrown the traditional “Don Draper" ad approach where all you need is one rockstar idea and can just run with it. Now, it's all about testing, learning and creating multiple ad variants. That's not to say that data should strangle your designers, but rather inform them and your creative decisions.

Join me on July 14 at 3:00 PM ET at Superside’s Ad—Designpalooza together with Shanee Ben-Zur, CMO at Crunchbase, where we will be discussing how to properly leverage data to influence your ad designs and even how to determine when NOT to run tests.

Here's what to expect:
▪️Engaging fireside chats
▪️Games (+ prizes)
▪️10+ speaker sessions

Registration is free!👇🏾

Apple’s upcoming App Tracking Transparency feature, set to launch in “early spring” of 2021, will require developers to ask users for their permission to track them across apps and websites in the form of a very obvious pop-up that you may have already seen if you own an iPhone.

Quite quickly after Apple’s announcement, Google made one too, effectively signalling the end of third-party tracking as we know it and placing greater emphasis on first-party data.

“Today, we’re making explicit that once third-party cookies are phased out, we will not build alternate identifiers to track individuals as they browse across the web, nor will we use them in our products.” - Google

These announcements aren’t surprising considering their precursors were laws and regulations that first protected EU citizens and California residents in the form of GDPR and CCPA. But what exactly are these regulations, how do they relate to the recent announcements, and what should you be doing about it as a consumer or advertiser?

If you are a consumer or advertiser, you’ve probably heard the terms first-party and third-party used to describe cookies and data. These terms are very relevant today, especially with recent announcements from Apple and Google that will change the way marketers use data to track consumers across the web for the purpose of advertising.

In short, there will be greater emphasis placed on using first-party data as well as enhanced consumer privacy protections including but not limited to: more transparency into tracking and explicit consent for when and what type of data is being collected. We will touch upon the specifics of the recent changes to the privacy landscape in a future blog post, but for now, let’s set the scene by helping you understand first-party and third-party cookies and data.
