This little red truck has been a part of my life since 1984❤️🚛

It was given to me by someone I loved deeply, someone I lost back in 2007

As a child, this toy meant the world to me. Optimus Prime was larger than life. He was strong, brave, compassionate and always willing to stand up for what was right

But as I got older, I began to understand why this particular character had always meant so much to me

Optimus reminded me of the man who gave him to me

My grandfather

He taught me that real strength wasn’t about being the toughest person in the room. It was about being kind to others. Having strength of character. Knowing your own value without diminishing someone else’s. Never getting ahead at the expense of another person. And understanding that being gentle and compassionate never made you weak

He was my gentle giant

With the passing of Peter Cullen, I’ve found myself thinking a lot about the loss of my grandfather almost 20 years ago, and about how strangely connected those memories have always been

Peter didn’t simply give a voice to Optimus Prime

He gave him a soul

Through Peter’s performance, Optimus became the kind of hero a kid could look up to, not because he was the biggest or strongest, but because he believed in doing what was right, protecting others and leading with compassion

Maybe that is why hearing Optimus speak always felt so familiar to me

Behind that voice and behind that little red truck were the same qualities I saw in my grandfather

Thank you, Peter, for spending more than four decades giving life to a robot truck from the stars who, somehow, always reminded me of my own gentle giant

And thank you, Pow Pow 💥 , for giving a little boy this truck back in 1984

I still have him

And now, more than ever, I understand why I could never let him go ❤️

“Be strong enough to be gentle”

Till all are one 🕊️

Here’s a Peter Cullen memory we’ve never shared before. ❤️

At San Diego Comic-Con, during the celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the Transformers live-action movies with Hasbro, Peter came over because he wanted to see the work we had done to the engine bay of Beaterbee.

We ended up talking for quite a while about cars, life, and Optimus Prime.

I told Peter that Optimus had always reminded me a lot of my grandfather, who spent his entire career serving between the military and the police. Like Optimus, my grandfather believed that being gentle, compassionate and kind to others was the true measure of a man.

After I shared that with Peter, he told me a little story about his brother Larry from when they were kids.

That was Peter. He was incredibly down-to-earth, genuine, and willing to take the time to have a real conversation with you.

Before he left, I asked him to sign Bee’s radiator shroud, something he told me was a first for him. Instead of someone bringing a car part up to his autograph table, he was actually signing it right there on the car.

That same radiator shroud now also carries Hailee Steinfeld’s signature, making it an incredibly special piece of Beaterbee’s story.

Peter, thank you not only for being such an important part of my childhood, but also for giving me some truly unforgettable memories in my adulthood.

Those conversations, those moments, and your kindness will stay with me forever.

And Peter… if you happen to see my Grandpa up there, say hi to him for me. 👋❤️

Till all are one. 🕊️

Today, we lost a legend — and the man who gave the spark, the soul and the voice to Optimus Prime. 💔

Peter Cullen was Optimus Prime.

When Peter first auditioned for the role that would forever change his life — and the lives of generations of Transformers fans — he took inspiration from the words of his older brother, Larry, a decorated Marine:

“Peter, if you’re gonna be a hero, be a real hero.”
“Don’t be one of those Hollywood heroes, pretending they’re tough.”

Larry reminded him that a true hero didn’t need to yell or prove how tough he was. A real hero could be strong enough to be gentle.

Peter carried those words into the recording booth, and from them came the voice of Optimus Prime.

But Peter didn’t simply give Optimus a voice.

He gave him honour. Compassion. Strength. Wisdom. Humanity.

I had the incredible honour and privilege of meeting Peter in person three times, and I was also fortunate enough to speak with him over a video call about one of our upcoming projects.

Those are memories I will treasure forever.

What always stood out about Peter wasn’t simply that unmistakable voice.

It was the man behind it.

Peter understood what Optimus Prime meant to people. He understood that for many fans, Optimus wasn’t simply a character from a cartoon or a movie, he represented courage, leadership, compassion and doing what was right even when it wasn’t easy.

And Peter never took that responsibility, or the fans who loved him, for granted.

He took the time to listen.
He took the time to smile.
He took the time to make every fan feel like their moment with him mattered.

Maybe that’s because Peter Cullen didn’t just play the kind of hero his brother Larry described all those years ago.
He became one.

Thank you for the memories.
Thank you for the kindness.
Thank you for giving a voice to our childhoods.

Thank you Peter, for giving Optimus Prime his spark.

You will be deeply missed, but you will never be forgotten.

Your voice will live on every time we hear those words…

“Autobots… Roll Out.”

Till All Are One. 🕊️
