For many ADHD projectors, there is a deconditioning process to uncover true aligned success vs validation.
Or another way to look at it:
Success vs relief.
A conditioned projector often spends years trying to outrun feelings of inadequacy, rejection, or “not enoughness.”
When they finally receive recognition, an invitation, praise, a promotion, a compliment, a client inquiry, or external approval, what they’re feeling isn’t necessarily Projector Success.
They’re feeling temporary relief from the pressure of the not-self.
The undefined Ego says:
“See? I proved I’m worthy.”
The undefined Sacral says:
“See? All that pushing paid off.”
Rejection sensitivity says:
“See? They don’t hate me after all.”
And because that relief feels so good, it gets mistaken for success.
But true Projector success has a different quality to it.
It feels less like:
“Thank God they finally chose me.”
And more like:
“This is the right recognition for who I already am.”
One feels like tension releasing.
The other feels like alignment.
That’s why some projectors can receive enormous amounts of validation and still feel bitter, exhausted, unseen, and deeply unsatisfied. The validation is landing in the conditioning, not the self.
For ADHD projectors especially, rejection sensitivity can make external recognition feel like evidence of worthiness rather than evidence of alignment.
That’s a really important distinction.
