For years, many women with ADHD weren’t thriving.
We were compensating.
We were pushing through.
Working harder.
Masking more.
Running on stress, urgency, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and sheer willpower.

Then perimenopause hits.

Estrogen and progesterone begin to fluctuate and decline, and suddenly the strategies that carried us for decades stop working.

Not because we’re failing.

Because the scaffolding is gone.

For many women, this is the moment ADHD finally becomes visible.

Not because it wasn’t there before.

Because we can no longer out-hustle it.

Research is increasingly showing what women have been saying for years: ADHD symptoms often become more noticeable during perimenopause and menopause.

Difficulty focusing.
Executive dysfunction.
Emotional overwhelm.
Brain fog.
Memory challenges.

But I want to put forward that the question isn’t:
“How do I get back to who I was before?”

Because who you were before may have been surviving on compensation, not alignment.

Maybe the better questions are:
Where was I overriding my body?
Where was I ignoring my limits?
Where did burnout become part of my identity?

Perimenopause isn’t necessarily the beginning of the problem.

For many women, it’s the first time the problem becomes impossible to ignore.

And while that can feel terrifying, it can also be an invitation.
An invitation to understand yourself for the first time.

Not through the lens of what you can force yourself to achieve.

But through the lens of how you’re actually designed to function.

Sometimes what feels like everything falling apart is really the end of a lifetime of holding yourself together the hard way.

We’ve been taught that the right decision should feel good.

Peaceful.
Certain.
Exciting.

But what if that’s not true?

What if the most aligned decision of your life is also the one that breaks your heart?

One of the biggest misconceptions I see in Human Design is the belief that following your authority should feel comfortable or even feel like “a full body hell yes”.

But inner authority/ intuition isn’t here to make you comfortable.
It’s here to reveal what’s true.

And sometimes truth asks us to leave a relationship we still love.
To release a dream we worked years to build.
To let go of a version of ourselves we’ve outgrown.

That doesn’t mean the decision is wrong.
It means something real is ending.
It means the next step is unknown, which is deeply uncomfortable for the mind & nervous system.

In my newest Substack article, I explore why intuition can feel like heartbreak, the difference between truth and comfort, and why the most aligned path is often the one that asks the most of us.

Do you know that feeling — when part of you already knows, and the knowing itself is the hardest part?

Maybe it’s a relationship you’ve outgrown. A business you’ve built that no longer fits the person you’ve become. A city, a friendship, a version of your life that made sense once — and quietly stopped making sense somewhere along the way.

Your inner knowing has already spoken.
And it’s breaking your heart.

And what the science of grief, growth, and your nervous system actually says about aligned decisions

Have you ever been so in flow you lost track of time? Where you lost yourself in the moment?

It isn’t just something available to you in sports or hobbies. It is also available is the workplace and relationships as well.

When Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi studied flow, he wasn’t asking, “How do people become more successful?” He was asking, “When do people feel most alive?”

Those are not the same question.

Flow emerges when:

* Your skills are matched to the challenge.
* You’re fully engaged in the present moment.
* Self-consciousness temporarily drops away.
* The activity becomes intrinsically rewarding.

Notice that achievement isn’t on that list.

Many people unconsciously replace:

* “What brings me alive?”
with
* “What makes me successful?”

Or worse:

* “What gets me approval?”

That’s a very different pursuit.

Someone can achieve an enormous amount and never experience flow because they’re performing from conditioning.

The irony is that achievement often becomes a byproduct of flow, not the source of it.

Like Ra Uru Hu said: “do without doing & everything gets done”.

What if this next era you weren’t being called to push harder but to flow more?

For many ADHD projectors, there is a deconditioning process to uncover true aligned success vs validation.

Or another way to look at it:

Success vs relief.

A conditioned projector often spends years trying to outrun feelings of inadequacy, rejection, or “not enoughness.”

When they finally receive recognition, an invitation, praise, a promotion, a compliment, a client inquiry, or external approval, what they’re feeling isn’t necessarily Projector Success.

They’re feeling temporary relief from the pressure of the not-self.

The undefined Ego says:
“See? I proved I’m worthy.”

The undefined Sacral says:
“See? All that pushing paid off.”

Rejection sensitivity says:
“See? They don’t hate me after all.”

And because that relief feels so good, it gets mistaken for success.

But true Projector success has a different quality to it.

It feels less like:
“Thank God they finally chose me.”
And more like:
“This is the right recognition for who I already am.”

One feels like tension releasing.
The other feels like alignment.

That’s why some projectors can receive enormous amounts of validation and still feel bitter, exhausted, unseen, and deeply unsatisfied. The validation is landing in the conditioning, not the self.

For ADHD projectors especially, rejection sensitivity can make external recognition feel like evidence of worthiness rather than evidence of alignment.

That’s a really important distinction.

Burnout recovery isn’t linear.

And it definitely isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Some people take a weekend away and feel refreshed due to mild burnout. Others spend months — or years — rebuilding after living in survival mode for far too long.

Neither experience is more valid than the other.

The problem is that we often compare our recovery to people who haven’t lived our story.

Maybe they weren’t masking.
Maybe they weren’t carrying years of chronic stress.
Maybe they weren’t navigating ADHD, PTSD, grief, trauma, caregiving, people-pleasing, or the pressure of holding everything together.

So if your recovery is taking longer than you expected, you’re not failing.

You’re not behind.

And you’re certainly not lazy.

Your nervous system is doing exactly what it was designed to do: protect you.

The goal isn’t to force yourself back into productivity.

The goal is to rebuild capacity.

To create safety.

To learn how to work with your nervous system instead of against it.

If you need a place to start, I’ve created a free Nervous System Reset to help you begin regulating your system and reconnecting with yourself.

What if your Human Design signpost isn’t wrong… but your definition of it is?

Human Design teaches that each Type has a signpost:
• Generators → Satisfaction
• Projectors → Success
• Manifestors → Peace
• Reflectors → Surprise

But what happens when ADHD, nervous system adaptations, rejection sensitivity, and conditioning redefine those feelings before you ever discover Human Design?

In this episode, we’re exploring one of the most overlooked errors in Human Design: mistaking conditioned relief for alignment!

Richard Rudd asks one question that has the power to unravel everything:

What would my life look like without suffering?

Most of us can’t answer it.

Not because we’re broken.

Because we’ve spent a lifetime building an identity around the wound.

Your Core Wound isn’t a mistake. It’s the pattern your nervous system learned to survive through. The lens you’ve looked at life through for so long that it began to feel like you.

But the shadow was never your enemy.

It’s your oldest protection strategy.

And the moment you stop trying to fix it, fight it, or transcend it—and begin to understand it—you unlock the gift hidden beneath it.

That’s where the real transformation begins. 🔑

One of the biggest misconceptions I see in Human Design is that knowing your type automatically means you’ll know when you’re aligned.

But what if the very thing you think is your signpost… has become conditioned?

A Projector can chase success because they’ve learned recognition feels safer than rejection.

A Generator can mistake the dopamine of starting something new for true satisfaction.

A Manifestor can mistake nervous system shutdown for peace.

A Reflector can mistake chaos and overstimulation for surprise.

The signposts aren’t wrong.

The challenge is that many of us have spent years building identities, businesses, relationships, and lives from survival patterns rather than alignment.

This is why awareness alone isn’t enough.

Human Design reveals the pattern.

The nervous system reveals why the pattern keeps repeating.

One gives us awareness.

The other creates the capacity to change.

Because knowing your design is one thing.

Actually living it is another.
