The NHL will no longer air on CBC after the public broadcaster and national rights-holder Rogers Sportsnet failed to reach a new sublicensing agreement.

The deal would have allowed CBC to continue broadcasting games through its iconic Saturday night program, Hockey Night in Canada. CBC has televised NHL games since 1952 and had continued to air them under an agreement established when Rogers Sportsnet secured the league’s Canadian broadcast rights in 2013 through a $5.2-billion deal.

Rogers Sportsnet recently renewed those rights with a new 12-year agreement worth $11.2 billion, set to begin in October. However, the two broadcasters were unable to negotiate a new arrangement that would keep NHL games on CBC.

The change was announced Tuesday in a joint statement from CBC and Rogers Sportsnet, marking the end of a broadcasting partnership that has connected generations of Canadian hockey fans for more than seven decades.

IMPAIRED CHARGES: Someone’s Saturday night’s plans allegedly included: drive into a ditch, deploy the airbags, abandon the vehicle, attempt the world's least successful game of hide-and-seek, and then get charged with impaired.

Peterborough County OPP responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on County Road 50 around 10 p.m. When the officer arrived, they found the vehicle... but the driver had apparently decided that if they couldn't stay on the road, they also couldn't stay at the scene.

Police say the driver was located a short distance away trying to avoid contact with the officer. That's a bold strategy considering they had left behind several clues, including an entire vehicle in a ditch.

After what was likely a very awkward conversation, the driver was arrested and taken back to the detachment for testing.

Clayton DUNK (age 29) of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Township, ON., was arrested and charged with impaired driving charges, given a court date, a 90-day licence suspension, a seven-day vehicle impoundment, and the lifelong realization that airbags weren't the only thing that went off that night.

Moral of the story: Don’t drive impaired.

A 38-year-old Oshawa man is facing numerous charges following a sexual assault investigation by Durham Regional Police.

According to investigators, the victim connected with a couple through a Facebook au pair group in 2025 and travelled to Canada in December to provide childcare in exchange for room and board at their Oshawa home.

Police allege that on December 12, 2025, the accused gave the victim ice cream. Shortly after consuming it, the victim reported feeling disoriented before losing consciousness and having no memory of the remainder of the night. Medical testing later confirmed the presence of a noxious substance in her system.

Earlier this year, investigators executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence, where they seized several electronic devices and what police say was the same drug used in the alleged offence. Further analysis of the devices uncovered additional evidence related to the investigation, as well as alleged child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

On June 10, 2026, members of the DRPS Special Victims Unit arrested Derek Stephen Bellamy, 38, of Oshawa without incident.

Bellamy is charged with sexual assault, administering a noxious substance, five counts of voyeurism, five counts of possessing recordings obtained by voyeurism, possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material, and accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

He was held for a bail hearing.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims and have released a photo of the accused. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Dunbar of the Special Victims Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5344.
